there's like a 7-inch gap between the bed and the cab. I can't see how Ford would sanction this (unless that is a short-bed on a long-bed frame...the article mentions something to that fact, but not if the image is that vehicle).
Either way, it is ugly. None of the body lines line up and it is really a bad 70's look on an 80's body.
I would wait for the final reveal, the vinyl wrap is distorting the details in the lower fascia which help to frame the front-end better. I can see the issues people have with the smiley grille but I love the overall effect of a wider, flatter, more aggressively wrapped grill motif instead of that insipid oval shape I've never liked (and infected the newest Edge). There are so many great things going on this design, from the flat and flared fenders transitioning into the aggressively forward leaning shoulder line to the chopped down roof and high belt-line which gives it a uniquely modern sporting profile. It's just a huge departure from the beige box on wheels that looks even more exotic in the higher trim levels (this is not that version).
Might have been Ford-sanctioned, but it looks really 'aftermarket' to me. And I also think the 302 powered Ranger is an urban myth along with the 'factory' Lincoln Y-block powered '56 F-100. And don't get me started on the 'factory' '74 460/4 speed F-250 Highboy 4X4........
