Read between the lines... it would be highly unlikely that Nissan could recruit him that quickly if he and Ford had "agreed to part ways." It's much more likely that he left on his own accord for this offer, and Ford, once realizing he was going to a competitor, obligingly walked him to the door. Yeah, and a non-compete can’t unreasonably keep someone from working, so if you are a car designer they can’t say you can’t design cars for anyone, which may be how he ended up with Nissan. As Sullynd points out it may only apply to certain mfrs or they gave the ok. the reason they can enforce a non compete clause is they usually give them more than enough severance to cover their salary during that period.
