Sterling Archer
Its funny to see all of these elected union officials that you haven't seen since the last election campaigning for votes. Most of them only come around at election time asking you to vote for them. They cant be bothered to spend any time on the floor during NON Election years. They claim they are to busy in meetings, trying to save your job or get new work .They they don't have time to walk the floor and visit us peasants and see how things are really going on the floor. Its really funny they don't have time to walk the floor but can spend weeks campaigning for your vote. The only ones you see are the committee people on a regular basis. Sterling Archer
Well I did see a couple of our Elected people. They were transferring golf clubs from one vehicle to another before their 930 am secret meeting ! LOL
Ididntdoit
here at CAP they rush through the elections they don't communicate voting times very well giving you last min notice, but there again no one really goes to a meeting maybe 150-200 out of 4500 or so. But the current elected union doesn't want anyone to show easier for them to be re elected. When you call them out they attack you in the parking lot then play the victim when they get popped in the leg.
Ididntdoit
Does 228 have a app they use or supposed to use to communicate with members? we have one at 551 but they use it more for non union related and now to campaign with which should be against the rules but not sure if they were aware of phone apps at the time the rules were set. Sterling Archer
They dont have an app that I am aware of. They just plaster their posters all over the plant and expect someone else to take them down after the election. The one good thing out of our elections is we have a new plant chairman. We will see how he works out. Alot of promises were made. Lets see if he can keep any of them. The one bad thing is we elected someone that only cares about himself and his close friends. He will stab you in the back or throw you under the bus if it will help him get a minute of O.T.
Ididntdoit
we weren't so lucky, barely half the members voted and we ended up with the same company puppets but we're used to rigged elections and lame politics in Chicago maybe this contract will save me from suffering another 4 years
Sterling Archer
Heard a rumor today that the soon to be FORMER plant chairman and his cronies are planning on challenging the election results at local 228. Dont know what he plans to accomplish since he lost by a nice margin. Maybe he is trying to get to 100 of his buddies hired in before he HAS to step down. Ididntdoit
nepotism is strong at CAP as well, and the fact that barely half our members voted they were able to get re elected. But we're a company ran plant so it doesn't matter much. We did have a young one win which was good to see fresh blood get involved.
Ididntdoit
https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2019/06/28/ford-employee-fired-for-self-defense-shooting-rehired-gets-back-pay/ the elected unit that was intoxicated and attacked a member was able to keep his job and hold his position, and allowed to run again and get re elected this year (in a very questionable and shady election). Of course it is convenient that this wasn't settled in court till after the election. For this unit to be allowed to bargain on anyones contract is a joke and 551 members are the butt end of it. Now there should be no question as to why there is no solidarity within the UAW, there is no question as to how corrupt the UAW is. The only question is WHY do we continue to allow a corrupted union to collect our dues and misrepresent us? Being a 3rd generation UAW member I'm embarrassed by our local and by our international on all levels. I'm not a "union buster" I'm just a pissed off autoworker that's tired of this fake union. If there isn't a redo on this election because of this, there will never be any respect or solidarity in CAP. We can not send sexual predators and violent drunks to represent us bargaining for a contract and expect anything good to come out of it.
