Mach-E, Mach E, etc.,......it's all in a name.

"Ford trademarked "Mach E," "Mach-E," and "Mustang Mach-E" for use on motor vehicles, electric vehicles and passenger vehicles within days of each other in late March and early April. The automaker also recently trademarked "Thunder" and "Evos" for similar uses. The automaker also owns "Model E," a trademark Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk wanted for one of his vehicles."

I just got the magazine today, no confirmation and alot of speculation, I can see this being as a Fusion replacement, yes there might be some Mustang cues, what they call it we won't know yet, but it seems to look like it's Subaru Outback from Ford. Still a bit early to find out WHAT it will be.  As a plus, it's what we see, yet we see nothing from the competition though...

The people who have seen it says it looks more like a Panamera.

which is IIRC, related to the Bentley Continental............how ironic...?

For something that was touted as a Utility, that sure sounds a lot like a car........

That's good that a rwd hatch will replace Fusion/Taurus. What's missing is the compact car side of things.

I wouldn't bet against a Mexican-made "Chinese" Escort being offered here since it's a decontented Foucs, TC and "Focus pickup" will be made there and US buyers proved they won't buy an expensive compact but it's detrimental not to offer one against the Asians. If Ford pulls the trigger don't be surprised GM and FCA respond with Mexican Cavalier and Neon.

Never going to happen; not at all the place Ford wants to be positioned in the US market. Not to mention the money that it would be needed to modify structure for US Crash and Bumper requirements. The US/Canadian market do buy plenty of expensive compact cars, its just the fact that Ford didn't do anything to the Focus after the launch to fix the disaster transmission that sank the car here. Honda has sold tons on Civic Touring from the 2016 and the new Corolla is actually a pretty nice car. Ironic the Corolla now uses an independent rear suspension and the Focus is now Torsen beam.

Why wouldn't Chinese Escort wouldn't pass US crash standards if it's a 13'-18' Focus underneath?, it wouldn't cost billions to convert. Honda have no choice but to offer an expensive Civic here because thier reputation and their money is made off Civic, CRV and Accord as Ford's baby is F-Series. Ford don't have to go toe-to-toe on Escort with the Asians but still offer a compelling offering, even if it have rear torsion beam. We know Ford can still make a great Focus from the 19' model but paper-thin margins isn't where it's at.

Remember Fiesta and Ranger wasn't for N/A either.....

Ford isn't competing in the low end of the market, they are done with that. Ford is focusing on higher priced SUV's and Trucks as its actually easier to hit CAFE target numbers with them, they are in demand in the market and vastly more profit for the resources that need to be spent. Crash tests and regulations get harder and harder so an old Focus isn't going to cut it and would get massacred in the market. US/Canada have different bumper requirements than ROW, you'd have to certify a powertrain that would be acceptable to US consumers. The US/Canada/Western Europe Market is if there is not sustained profit model Ford isn't going into the market segment, with brand loyalty shrinking they don't view the we sell a cheap entry level car and that is a customer for life. They would rather lease a higher priced car for 36months,  for the payment of a lower priced car then sell that nicer vehicle to a new customer as a Used vehicle. They are even considering leasing used cars that would have full warranty for an additional 36 months, then selling that 6 year old car.

Fiesta was a filler product for us here as it was going to be sold in SA at volumes that were thought to be much higher than turned out, even at those higher numbers Ford needed more volume to make the plant profitable so it was designed for the US as it would also help CAFE under the old rules. Ranger didn't have a home, when Thailand was though to have a free trade agreement with the US the plan was going to be to import them, that trade deal didn't happen and Ford knew the Ranger didn't have volume for its own plant and the Truck plants were already maxed out with more profitable product so NA left the program.

Who says Ford won't do another Chinese Escort on 19' ROW Focus?. Me personally I buy/lease new cars only as primary transportation now after years of used dealers, C.List and auto auction specials (I'll do that for a 2nd vehicle) and there's thousands of buyers that don't wanna used car period.

For engines, the current 1.6 and 2.0 EBs won't pass emissions?, as for "massacre" the Versa/Sentra is on the low totem pole compared to the other compacts but sold by the bushel. I get why Ford may not go for entry-level sedans but it's it a solid "no" when a Mexican factory is already pumping out profitable vehicles on the same platform?.

They aren't using those engines in China and any new product would need to be certified anyways with the EPA.

Its simple-Ford makes $$$ on the Escape vs the Focus because the Escape is nearly 6K more then the Focus before any discounts. Just because they are on the same platform doesn't mean they are both profitable.

If those buyers want to buy a new cheap transportation there are the Asians to fill that market or those buyers might just be forced to the used car market. The Versa/Sentra sell models out side of the US and are designed as low price point vehicles so offering them here are just incremental sales to the factories already pumping those models out.

Ford and most manufactures are not going to be a full line car company, they are going to pick the segments where they can make money and focus resources there, for Ford that is not cheap cars at the low end of the market. GM, Renault/Nissan and Toyota are really the only ones that are still there and even they are starting to drop models and are exiting markets.

It's fine if Ford don't choose to compete in the US low-end sedan market although IMO they have the platform and factory ready in Mexico. As said IMO don't be too surprised when Mexican TC/Foucs pickup goes online Escort maybe offered.

They'll bring over the Euro Focus before the Chinese Escort

I meant they would make the Escort in Mexico and offer it in N/A and (now I think about it) Cent/S. America.

Because if they have excess plant capacity then Focus or Fusion would be far more profitable than a cheap Escort.
