Huge rebates on Chevy 1500s

Nothing new or unusual. That's how things work with full size pickup trucks from all brands, not just Chevy. MSRPs on full size pickup trucks these days are inflated like crazy.

Also, few people are going to qualify for the $9,015 offer that you mentioned in its entirety. Many of the incentives are conditional on financing, ownership of a current truck, specific packages, etc.

It IS unusual on a brand new from the ground up design.  We aren't talking about a 4 year old F150..  we're talking about a BRAND NEW, fully redesigned model and the fact they have to through $5,500 on the hood is ridiculous (in rebates let alone what one negotiates off sticker).

I also clearly stated that it is $5,500 + $500 if you finance through them.. so if you don't, it is $5,500 still on the hood.

$3,500 Cash + $2,000 Competitive Cash + $3,015 off MSRP.  This is on Crew Cab LT All Star vehicles.. so no rare 1 off vehicles that Ford usually pulls on their F150s nor a vehicle with their tiny 2.7 4 cylinder (offer includes the 5.3 v8).

Your defending of GM in every aspect possible is very old on here.  They should NOT have to throw $9,000 on the hood of a brand new model.

As in "why" are we constantly throwing money on the hood to get people to buy our trucks.

Because it takes money to make money. Taking the sales incentives into account, all of the manufacturers of full size pickup trucks are still making truckloads of profit selling these things. The pickup truck manufacturers, especially the 2 U.S. domestic ones, follow the technique used in retail. Mark up the sticker price ridiculously high. Then offer sales incentives that appear to be "huge" to get more and more people to buy their trucks.

When you drive past the RAM assembly plant there are huge banners of "Go for Silver" when the workers walk in; FCA wants RAM to outsell the Chevy brand and I think are going to make a hard run for it this year. The Lease deals on the F-150/RAM/Chevy/GMC's/Toyota's are crazy cheap for employees. $150/Month will get you a pickup with a 50K sticker with 0 down.

Ford rarely has more than $1250 in rebates on higher trim F150s (Lariat and above).

You realize that leaves out 9 months of the year right? #jokeruined

Yeah, I screwed that one up.

How about this one?  From Who's Line is it anyway.  "Chevy, where the rules are made up and the sticker price doesn't matter".

You can still easily get $7,500 or more off MSRP on higher trim Ford F-150, even with relatively low rebates. Here's an example King Ranch F-150 at my local dealership. Only $1,750 in rebates, but over $5,700 in dealer discount. https://www.autonationfordfortworth.com/new/Ford/2019-Ford-F-150-322523d40a0d0cc70321ad120f921692.htm?searchDepth=2:52

GM and FCA also use variable rebates based on trim level. Both of them offer the biggest rebates not on the highline trims of their full size pickup trucks, but the midgrade. Toyota and Nissan by contrast apply the same fixed rebate amount for all trims of Tundra and Titan (except Tundra TRD Pro).

Everybody discounts off MSRP - that's standard dealer practice.   Factory rebates are entirely different.  Increased rebates always mean sales are slower than expected.   Now I don't know if Chevy has done that or if these are their normal rebates but if Ford and Chevy have similar pricing but one has significantly higher rebates then that indicates that sales are slow.

This is why Detroit 3 are giving up cars, buyers demand rebates. So, only sell the products that make huge money after such discounts.

But regarding Chevy trucks, best thing they can do to add value is merge with GMC brand. Some buyers are willing to pay more to have it.

Good points akirby sir. 1Q 2019 U.S. vehicle sales numbers for GM and Ford should be released next Monday or Tuesday. It will be interesting to see the trends for full size pickup truck sales and the average incentive spend at both automakers.

Here in the DFW Metroplex, new generation Silverado and Sierra seem to be very popular. But DFW and Texas motorists are more truck happy than the norm. Don't know if the rest of the U.S. has been snapping up these pickups with the same fervor.

Here in the land of A-Plan, I've seen a grand total of 3 2019 Chevys and 1 GMC. A ton of new RAMs.

GM is off to a very slow start,  Silverado and Sierra combined sales for Jan + Feb were just 90,517 compared to F Series 128,114 (127,118)

Silverado is down 20% compared to last year ( 66,075 vs 82,998 ) but Sierra sales are flat with last year ( 24,442 Vs  24,386)

What's up with that?
