Wikipedia is inaccurate, all of those vehicles are C1, the platform has been around since 2003 and simply evolved to where it is now, the Chinese Escort is just based on an older parts set. Pre-CD4 the EUCD Mondeo, S-max and Galaxy were more closely aligned with the smaller C1 with shared power trains and electrical systems. What C2 does is put the band back together and give Ford a comprehensive FWD/AWD capable product envelope.

jpd80
Sorry twintornados, I understand that that you were merely quoting wiki so please don't take my comments personally Just looking at what's been achieved with C2 Focus, Escape should get significant weight reduction and space improvement, I like the idea of a compact truck if Ford can deliver it at the right price and mix of features and ability. Isn't it ironic that a few short years ago, the thought of a compact pick up or a compact dual cab pick up would have been laughed off the boards as something that could and arguably was already covered by Escape. Now diversity of product is coming back and hopefully customer interest follows Edited December 14, 2018 by jpd80

I thought the ridgeline would be more compareable to the Santa Fe in size but I could be wrong. Hyundai is working on two different trucks, that's why some lazy websites are confused. Santa Cruz is based on Tucson, which means it is a compact... Most likely Santa Cruz will be the same size as Fiat Toro (based on Jeep Compass), Renault Oroch (based on Dacia Duster), and the upcoming VW Tarok (based on VW Tharu), and supposedly Ford Courier (based on TBD compact CUV). There is another Hyundai midsize truck project which will be the same size as Ridgeline but there is conflicting report whether it is based on the Santa Fe or a completely different body on frame design. I have always been surprised that they did not make a truck based on the ill-fated KIA Borrego. It would have been a way to recoup some of that investment and establish a foothold in the market. All the legacy Kia models were progressively replaced with ones based on Hyundai... and Hyundai didn't have any plans for BOF SUV or pickup truck at that time so they quickly buried Borrego. ausrutherford
Kia was taken over by Hyundai in 1998. That was about 6 years before the Borrego came out.

jpd80
Correct, Brazil and Argentina now prevent Mexico from dumping vehicles into South America.

Well Ford also does not have a large sales presence in Mexico (anymore). Chevrolet (GM) can afford to build some models there and not export to the US and Canada, but Ford builds in Mexico for the pure use of exportation. bzcat
This truck will have very similar proportions to Transit Connect. Note the position of rear door vs. the rear wheels. It is significantly longer than Focus wagon.
