Unless there is some sort of high tech hybrid system in the car-I don't quite understand how it got this far and they went oh shit the electric doesn't work right on it.

Exactly!  And even if it is some type of high-tech hybrid, you would think that would've been caught long before now.

Some conspiracy theorists think this delay is because the performance wasn't up to par at the 'Ring and it wasn't going to beat the Porsche 911 GT3RS after the Porsche spanked the C7 ZR1.

Makes me curious as to what they can do in that period of time to up performance without impacting realibitiy

I guess Ford never has recalls. Oh wait, they do because they knowingly send errors to dealer lots to prevents delays that Internet CEOs complain about.

That makes absolutely no sense.  A recall is completely different from finding out late in the game that your electrical system can't handle the load.

The difference WHEN the issue is corrected. Bitching because they are fixing the problem before the product is sold is a little unfair. They are fixing it which is the most important thing. No manufacturer is without fault in screwing up the engineering at one time or another.

Typically, recalls are things that fail after years or something funky that happens to cause it (such as fuel tank straps rusting, or screws missing loctite).

This is a total engineering fail from GM.  How do you not have an electrical system that can handle the load?  Unless it is a trick hybrid setup, then they get a partial pass.  Yes, they are fixing it, but on a $100k+ 'super car', this should not have even gotten this far.

The problem is not finding out about such a problem at the last minute and then having to delay production 6 months.  That's an engineering fail whether it's Ford, GM, Honda or Porsche.

Fixing it now and delaying it is the correct response to the problem but that's not the type of problem you should have to respond to.

well looks like GM is aiming for a May unveiling

https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1120603_mid-engine-c8-corvette-reported-to-debut-in-summer-priced-just-above-c7

This is an interesting tidbit, then again look at the source too

When the car does debut, former General Motors executive Bob Lutz believes it will come with a price just a bit above the current C7-generation car. In his Dear Bob column in the latest issue of Road & Track, Lutz said the goal will be to "sell the C8, version for version, at a little more than the C7." He previously said in a discussion with Autoline he believed the C8-generation Corvette would start at around $5,000 more than the current car.

He added Chevrolet is "keenly aware" of the targeted price point and knows the Corvette's reputation for pulling off supercar performance for far less money. "It will be the best value on the planet," Lutz also said.
