Not buying Rams for the mpg's.

I watched that. This was specific to the Ram Rebel, but interesting how the Ram was well below it’s stated mileage. The mild hybrid doesn’t help the hwy mpgs. The truck only had 1K on the odometer so perhaps it could break in more.

Regarding sales, I would have liked to have seen more info on the Ram sales incentives for comparison. I understand its increased sales numbers, as I think it is a nice truck.  It would be my second choice, although no models with chrome.

I'm sure being the only company that will give you 84 months to pay on a car helps them alot.?

This isn't a factor in FCA's sales performance. :) GM Financial, Ford Credit, Toyota Motor Credit, and Nissan Motor Acceptance among others also offer 84 month loans. Many banks and credit unions that are not part of automaker captive financing companies do too.

They (and GM) cater more to sub prime borrowers.

Subprime borrowers (credit score < 625) are not a major factor in new vehicle sales these days, for FCA, GM, or any other automaker. This group has been declining as a percentage of new vehicle buyers every year since 2015. They were down to less than 10% of new vehicle customers in 1Q 2018.

Bloomberg said in an article earlier this year "Subprime New-Car Buyers Going Missing From U.S. Showrooms". https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-02/subprime-new-car-buyers-suddenly-go-missing-from-u-s-showrooms

The technology and engineering gap between Ford and the rest is pretty staggering at this point, especially with the all-new trucks failing to catch up.  But then again, Ford is probably poor because they overspend on product development.  Anyway, look at what Aviator is doing with Hybrids...that previews what F-Series will be doing...and then look at what RAM has done.

Mmm. Maybe that has some truth to it but,I haven't seen or heard of FORD,or chevy doing 84 month payments in the south suburbs of Chicago.

Yes, they all offer it.  Ford began offering 84-month loans in mid-2016.  While it is a ridiculously long term for financing a depreciating asset, it also says something about the rapidly rising price of cars.

Their stuff is considered 'cool' and somehow they are not 'capacity constrained' if they need more they just make more.

They are certainly on a roll.

I think they (ram, heep) actually have "truck guys" (aka real enthusiasts) designing and marketing there products....just look at the 2020 ram power wagon......dam that thing looks like a real truck....why can ford put a winch on the raptor????.....

I have 3 tenants who all bought Ram's, and all of them told me they tried to purchase a Ford and GM and they didn't have the credit score to qualify. FCA has been doing this for quite some time, as VW, Mitsu, Hyundai/Kia, Nissan Etc. Some vehicles sell well because of some positive attributes we can somewhat agree with like Camry/Accord, etc.  When you have POS's selling well who do nothing well in their segment, chances are its major rebates or lending to high credit risk borrowers.

That makes no sense. I don't know what's up with those Ford and GM dealers. Or maybe your tenants are lying. In the DFW Metroplex, all major car dealerships for all brands will go out of their way to find financing options that work for their prospects and customers. If an automaker's captive financing company won't do it, dealerships can contract with additional banks and credit unions.

When I used to listen to FM radio there were advertisements every day from a local Chevy dealer bragging about how they got financing for someone with a sub 550 credit score.  ‘Nuff said.

Yes sir, DFW area dealerships for many different brands do the usual "our financing experts can get you into the car of your dreams, all types of credit from good to bad can quality" gig in their advertising, promotions, etc.

Dealership's job is to get the prospect in the door, and out of the parking lot with the customer driving home in a new or used vehicle.
