A classic "good ol' boy" of the old school.
mackinaw
Yes, sad. Saw him race at the Atlanta speedway back in the mid-60's. Hell of a driver.
IMSA-XJR9
Such a racer! Sad to see him go.
blksn8k2
Met David and Bud Moore as they were walking through the show field at the All Ford Nationals in Carlisle a few years ago. Two of Ford's greatest NASCAR legends. Sadly they are both gone now. RIP
brucelinc
He was one of my favorites. When I was very young, he ran a USAC stock car race at a now defunct road course in Iowa. I was there for that race and put on a helluva show. He was also here in Minnesota a few years ago with Bobby Allison and Buddy Baker. They were signing autographs at the fair and I chatted with them. David remembered putting his car on the pole at that Iowa race so many years ago. fuzzymoomoo
He was the best and at the same time one of the biggest "what if's" in NASCAR history. He only ran more than 85% of the season 4 years (64, 66, 68, and 69) and in 3 of them was champion (66, 68, 69). He could have easily been champion a few more times. blksn8k2
A good portion of his success was in the Wood Brother's #21 and they only ran the races that paid decent money. Back then the season championship didn't carry the importance it does today and it probably didn't earn anyone much money either. Sponsorships weren't all that lucrative either which meant the teams relied more on the money they won, not corporate dollars which have pushed NASCAR and every other professional sport in a completely different direction. traxiii
Saw this and wanted to add my 2 cents. David Pearson and A.J.Foyt were my two favorite drivers growing up on the '60s and '70s and they both drove Fords, what a shock...not!
