DISLAIMER: I'm not a NASCAR fan at all - cars running in circles for hours is boring to me.

But, can I ask the question....

What's the point in even putting these stickers on these cars to make it look like whatever model they choose? I know advertising for the model, but it's just stupid to me - these "cars" have nothing to do with the models whos stickers they pretend to be.

What else should Ford, Chevy & Toyota do? Just make it look like a generic coupe with a manufacturer sticker on it? I can see doing that in IndyCar & F1, but full bodied race cars like NASCAR, NHRA Pro Stock & Funny Car, SuperCars, etc. need to resemble some type of readily available car, even if it is just "stickers". They still believe in the "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" mantra.

BTW - I was at the NASCAR Cup race this past weekend at Watkins Glen. It's a road course with more right turns than left and the Cup cars put on a hell of a show. It was a blast!

Nobody believes in "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" any more. And yes, they could just put a generic nose on every car and say that it's Ford or Chevy or Toyota powered just like prototypes. Only the die hard brand loyalists would care and there aren't many of those left.

Year after year Watkins Glen proves to be the best race of the NASCAR season.

They tried that with the "car of tomorrow" a few years ago, and I believe that hurt more than it helped. It will be interesting to see the difference between the new Aussie V8 Supercar Mustang and the NASCAR Mustang.

It is a generic body. All three are mandated to use the same body with just enough mods to aid in corporate recognition. Look at the roof line.

Meh. Who cares? The France family doesn't give two poops about the old NASCAR fans and the cars bear not even the slightest resemblance to the vehicles on which their stickers are loosely based, so why should anybody give two poops about NASCAR?

The Rising Sun wanted to race and the France's showed them where to deposit the check.

They at least still say they believe it. They could, but the manufacturers still want some brand identity.

That was true a few years ago with the "Car of Tomorrow", but the current cars have a lot more styling than before. I'm pretty sure the greenhouse is the only thing that each car has in common.

Looks like they modeled it loosely off of the GT350.

Just wait till they put the GM engines in all of them. Don't think it will happen? Just wait it's coming.

The Ilmor engine makes sense for the Truck series, ARCA, and lower series. I don't like it, but it makes sense. I don't think you'll ever see it in the Cup or Xfinity series. If they ever put a "spec" engine in Cup, I will stop watching.

The greenhouse is the same for all the cars, but each manufacturer still has a lot of unique styling, more so now than a few years ago. When they switch manufacturers, they pretty much have to re-body the entire car.
