Ford rolls out exoskeleton for assembly line workers

Recommended Posts

Weird that Ford is just now releasing this; I saw it reported in the tech press several months ago.

I have seen it, they were running a trial of it at MAP about a year ago. From what I remember someone broke it pretty quickly.

Maybe the "fixed" it, hence the announcement now?

What I want to know is why they're using watermelons and bags of flour to assemble a vehicle?

They arent, its a metaphor. Some of the parts in the overhead areas might not seem heavy but do it 600+ times a day and yeah, it gets pretty heavy. Even a battery operated drill seems like it weighs 15 pounds after about an hour. I always hated working in those areas the few times I got loaned out there.

It was longer ago than I thought: November of last year, Ars Technica reported on it.

Really? Are you sure? I thought I heard Ford was using more plant fibers in their seats so maybe it's an offshoot of that?
