Lock Out Rear Audio Controls 18 Navigator w/ Pass Thru

Recommended Posts

Finally got our 18 Navigator. Love it. We got the second row pass thru mostly so our dog would have a nice place to sit in between the captains chairs. Works like a charm.

However, she sometimes likes to stand up and see whats going on in the front seats. When she does that she hits the entertainment controls that are located behind the front center console. I cannot find any way to lock those out. In the manual it says certain models have a lockout button where mine has a Source button (bottom of center dash controls). It does not say how to lock it out if you do not have the button. I went through every setting I could find. Called the dealer. Tried the Lincoln Concierge. No one said you cant do it but no one knew how to do it!

So my question is does anyone know how to lock out the rear controls if you have the pass thru?

Thanks!

I believe you can lockout the rear climate controls in the rear climate menu, which you can reach by pressing the "rear" button on the bottom hemisphere of the dial in the main climate controls.

I don't know if there is any way to lock out the rear audio controls and source button. If nobody answers, I'll fish around when i'm off holiday and back at my navigator in a week.

I think there is a lockout button in dash, but maybe only for vehicles with rear console?

There is indeed a lockout button if you have the rear console. However without the rear console there are still rear controls located rear facing between the 2 front seats. There is apparently no way to lock them out! Quite an oversight!

Seems like a cost cutting decision, or maybe, they figure since a driver can reach back and turn off manually, that none is required...

Everything I am seeing is your vehicle doesnt have a lock out. Heres a little quote from another owners manual source.

D. REAR LOCK or SOURCE Press to lock the rear passenger audio controls and you can only access them from the front controls, or if equipped, press to access different audio modes, for example AM, FM and CD.

Tried that method on day one. I did scoure the manual before posting here. It doesnt lock the controls. My issue if you recall is our dog sit in the pass thru and sometimes she peeks up to see whats going on in the front. When she leans on it she hits the controls and everything goes haywire. I simply want a button to lock out the rear controls and there doesnt appear to be one with the pass thru.

Way back there used to be a Way by pressing two presets and the same time to enable and disable rear headphone controls. But I dont see that here.

I appreciate the brainstorming here! I even brought the vehicle back to the dealer and no one could figure it out. I think it simply does not have a way to lock it out! Seems like an oversight.

Appears that D button can be programmed as LOCK or SOURCE ... just not user selectable. May not be dealer (allowed) programmable but may be possible with right equipment & knowledge.

Youll be hard-pressed to find anything outside of engineering level to do that. It would probably have better luck just replacing the control with one that has a back console. The dealer would not have accessibility to change the programming. If it was that big of a deal to me I would just change out the control With a used one and see what happens.

These newer vehicles have replaced hardwired circuits with digital networks and control most of the wired functionality (like what a button press does) with codes in the control modules. So changing hardware would not change the functionality.

Perhaps Forscan could change it but I personally would not want to 'mess' with the default programming.

Im sure Forscan can change it but youd have to find the location and codes.

It would be nice to be able to do a lot of this customizing without having to grab your laptop and ob2 dongle. Changing the mirrors to tilt, disabling the double horn honk, programming this button, Im sure I could think of a few more. Its a minor complaint in my book for for someone my fathers age it would be a total no go to even attempt using FOREscan... no offense to anyone my dads age lol

That control panel is an array of buttons and itself is a configurable module. Swapping that module with one set up would likely make it work. However, Im sure there would be erroneous codes as that module will be looking for information from the network from the rear console control module which isnt in that vehicle.

I would actually bet against it. Although forscan can change most things, I suspect a module change would be required. For example the 09 escape with navigation had a display at top of dash as the same with out navigation. With nav it didnt do much but showed a few functions. However, in 2010 the same vehicle with navigation kept the date displayed all the time. My parents wanted the date to show up there. No matter how much I tried to clone the data and change the as built data for the 2009 to the 2010 it wouldnt work. I ended up replacing the FCIM cloned the data and it worked perfect. I suspect this scenario would be the same.

I suspect that module will not accept the data to change from source to rear off.
