2013 Ford Escape SE - 1.6L - Warm Start Stalling

I have a 2013 Escape SE with the 1.6 in it that will consistently stall after a warm start.

I have figured out the exact conditions to make the car stall. It does it once the vehicle is warmed up and after the car has sat in a parking lot for 20-25 minutes. I can start the car up cold and drive it anywhere and its perfect, but after its been parked for a short period as soon as I start moving in drive it will sputter out and die like its running out of gas. After it dies it has an extended crank but has always starts back up. Sometimes after it starts back up it will die again. It also wont do it if it has sat for a couple of hours.

The engine light does not illuminate and there are no codes.

I have searched this forum and found multiple threads about people having the same issue, but no one has seemed to been able to get it fixed. At this point I am hoping someone has some insight or information.

Any help would be appreciated!

Could be a couple different things. It would be hard to diagnose without actually seeing it. There some engine harness splice issues that was a problem but most of the time was random and could set codes or not. Yours doesnt sound random since you can duplicate it. Another is the canister purge solenoid. They can cause a stall/hard start. Really hard to tell from the symptom since so many possibilities. Not to mention it could be fuel related. Have codes been pulled in all modules or just the pcm?

Hi fordtech1,

Thanks for your response. I spoke to Ford and they said that the wiring harness issue only applied to the 2.0 vehicles, not the 1.6. I have only attempted pulling codes from the PCM, but nothing came up. I am not sure how to pull codes from other modules. It is just frustrating because I know exactly when it will happen, but because no codes come up, Ford isn't able to diagnose it.

The recall was on the 2.0. Its been a long time, but Im almost certain the 1.6 had a similar issue with the harness. However, ask your dealer to set up a vehicle data recorder and it will record the events. You can make them snap shots of data when this happens.
