Groverson
So after fixing a vacuum issue with my AC I want to tackle my side mirrors. Both mirrors dont work at all when using the drivers side controls. I ruled out any blown fuses but would like troubleshoot the problem correctly. I have received great advice here and hope I can be steered in the right direction. Is it odd that both dont work at the same time? Are they connected in a series? As always thanks for your help!!!! fordtech1
The mirrors have memory so they are more complicated than a standard mirror. They run through the drivers seat module. Dumb question, you are flipping the selector from right or left to operate each mirror? Also does the power fold work?
Groverson
Oh that makes sense because my drivers side seat controls have not worked in 9 years. When Ford Lincoln fixed it they said it was off track but if it goes off again they will have to charge me. So I never had it fixed. Its stuck in a comfortable spot for me. When I push the seat controls I hear nothing no clicking or anything. The thing is that the side mirrors stopped many years later?
fordtech1
It could be a fuse for the seat module. Id have to look up the fuse numbers. Check under the seat and make sure all the connections are plugged in. It also was not uncommon for the mirror switch to go bad on the door. Groverson
Can I ask you about the seat being off track- is this possible? The mirror switch makes sense because it controls both mirror motors. Hard to believe that both motors would go out together.
fordtech1
Dont know about off track but the worm gears would lock up and the seat wouldnt move. A lot of times you can take a hammer and move the switch forward and reverse and tap on the drive that the motors attach to. Most of the time it would free up. They are cable driven off the motor. Does the seat go up and down? Just not back and fourth?
Groverson
No power at all to any of the seat functions. Ill have to take a look at the worm gear. So its a spinning rod and not really a moving track. But the seat moves on a track... right?
fordtech1
No power to any of the seat functions I would check the connections to the module under the seat. Also need to check all the fuses. Make sure the seat switch is connected also.
Groverson
Will do tomorrow. Thanks for your help! Happy 4th to you
Groverson
Well, I provided some misinformation about the seat. Sorry. Basically all the drivers side seat controls work with the exception of the seat moving forward or back. So they have independent motors Im a genius..lol . Ill have to do that tapping on the drive. Maybe that switch that moves the seat front and back is fried? Edited July 5, 2018 by Groverson
fordtech1
Does the power fold option on the mirrors work? When trying to move the seat forward or back you should hear a clicking sound. If so the motor is jammed like I described. Edited July 5, 2018 by fordtech1
Groverson
Not sure what Fold Option means -sorry -but the mirrors dont move at all using the switch. I do hear clicking when attempting to move the seat foward and back. These seats are so complicated!
fordtech1
The mirrors are power fold on the mirror switch there a button to make them fold in.
Groverson
Its my wifes NAV so Im getting familiar with all the bells and whistles. So I went out for take out lunch and started playing with the side mirror controls. I started playing with the folding switch but nothing happened. Kept fooling around with it and all of a sudden I saw the passenger side mirror housing move a bit! Like it wanted to fold. I then switched over to the driver side and wouldnt you know I got it to fold! Then went back to the other side and nothing. Then again to my side and nothing. Still have no mirror glass movement with the controls but seems like the switch has some life to it. So do you think my next step would be to replace the switch or check the wiring? Getting closer to a fix...I think? Edited July 6, 2018 by Groverson

Groverson
I knew you were going to say that. I look for a deal on a new switch. It goes for over $100 dollars. Thanks fordtech1
