JD_GTPP2
I have had my 2018 Mustang GT Performance Package Level 2 for three weeks today and this morning while shifting from 3rd to 4th at about 40 mph the engine grenaded.. Below is the link to the Mustang6g forum for a picture of a chunk of the engine block and what used to be a piston ring. coupe3w
Looks like you got a bad one. Ford should take care of that for you without question.
fuzzymoomoo
Sounds like a new engine courtesy of Ford to me. A friend of mine had the same thing happen with his Sons Focus ST with only 1200 miles on it.
YT90SC
LOTS of low mile 5.0L 2018's dropping valves - F-150 and Mustang. Almost always on the Driver's bank. Ford is aware and trying to fix the issue.
fordtech1
It sucks but they will fix it. 2011 6.7 had issues with dropping valves.

JD_GTPP2
Any warning at all? None whatsoever - no low oil light, no low pressure indication, nothing.
jcartwright99
This has become a new hot topic over at the Camaro forums.
fordtech1
I dont see how this is so news worthy. For the customer its a big inconvenience. But overall engines fail from every manufacturer. The gm guys shouldnt be so quick to talk crap. Remember the car and driver corvette that ate a rod bearing? Talk to your local Chevy dealer they are putting engines in for knocks on trucks. Hell even Tesla has to change drive units for noise. I just dont see this as such an awful unbelievable situation. Look how many that dont need engines. I have a 2013 f150 with a 5.0 196k Miles never has engine work done.
brucelinc
I wonder what the root cause for this was. Obviously, it is a rare occurrence. There has been some talk on other forums about a ticking noise in some of the 2018s but you never know exactly what people think they hear on an Internet forum. Ive noticed for whatever reason a lot of newer Ford engines have louder valvetrains. I always figured it was because of the plastic valve covers. brucelinc
Direct injection makes some noise, too, and sometimes that is hard to distinguish from valve train noise. The early 3.5 ecoboosts sounded like diesels but the newer ones are much quieter.

That’s the direct injection on the ecoboosts.
fuzzymoomoo
Thats the direct injection on the ecoboosts. Neither of my cars are Ecoboosts. One is older than the original 3.5 EcoBoost by several years. Try again. Edited July 1, 2018 by fuzzymoomoo
akirby
Well that is the case with the majority of the noise complaints. The DI ticking is extremely loud.
michjbthemh
I am sorry to hear that. I ordered a 2019 Mustang GT Premium PP2 which was supposed to be delivered on October 28th. I was told by my salesman today that all GT's on the assembly plant lot are being held and all the engines are being inspected. I was thinking I was being told a story as to why a car I ordered back in April was not here yet but maybe he was telling me the truth. I am trying to figure out where to post my question. coupe3w
Well that sucks. But you're not the first one to have engine problems.
Need For Green UK
Really sorry to hear about your issues, I hope Ford sort them out for you quickly. Does make me wonder about the rumours though.
O.L.
The V8 was never in my plan but I prefer to get an Ecoboost than having to toss if my engine is good or not.
