Autonomous Transit Connect Debuts

Recommended Posts

This is where Ford is investing in AVs, not private passenger vehicles. And an open platform to manage them that can be used by anybody. That's probably where most of the profit exists - in the platform and not the vehicles.

I think Ford is in a position to profit from both though

Of course, but you sell one autonomous vehicle you get a few thousand profit one time.

The management platform gets recurring revenue every month including from vehicles built by other mfrs and the companies using the service. Much much higher potential profit margin and it's not affected by changes in the new car market.

Interestingly, The Road Show mentioned this on one of their daily reports, and they said the van will not be autonomous. It will have a driver, but the driver will not interact with the customers.

The press release says self-driving. Maybe the driver is just there as a backup?

Is the driver driving? Or are they just a backup in case it stops working?

It’s true - this is the link from the media.ford.com website.

Apparently they’re testing the public’s acceptance and reaction to what they think is an autonomous vehicle.

I was going to blame Ford’s PR dept but apparently it was autoblog who didn’t read the actual press release and reported it incorrectly.
