Breedy00
Would like to get your feedback here. I've got 2,700 miles on my Navigator and have two decent sized chips in my windshield. The first one was no bigger than a pebble and I never even saw the second stone hit, just heard it, looked over and there was a huge chip. That one may actually too big to epoxy fill. Priced a new windshield from Ford and it's a hair under a grand. Is there something going on with Ford's glass manufacturer? I have a Sierra 2500 that has taken many shots to the windshield and never chipped once.
fuzzymoomoo
A. Most insurance covers windshield replacement B. Its not the glass, its our shit roads in this country. Every car Ive ever owned has needed a windshield replaced at some point.
Breedy00
That's certainly part of the issue, I agree. Next day, picked up a pinhead sized chip in my GTR. That rock hit really hard and I was surprised it didn't do more damage. That one really made me sick. Breedy00
Next question: How special is the factory glass? I know it's RFID, Soundscreen, etc. Should I buy a replacement from Lincoln or 3rd party would be acceptable? Wonder if they even have it templated yet. Breedy00
Also it's a business lease and I don't know if I want to fool with my insurance, but will look into it. Edited June 10, 2018 by Breedy00

Would you rather pay a $100 deductible at most or would you rather pay over $1000? A lot of glass places will cover your deductible too. It also most likely has the rain sensor so you need to be very specific. Have you had a chip repair specialist look at it? You'd be surprised what the can fix. I've had a lot of experience with both repair and replacement and try to avoid replacement if it can be fixed. Once they remove the original windshield, it will never look as perfect as when new. Breedy00
Here's the worse of the two.
LHB
I don't know how windshield repair/replacement/insurance works today but many years ago when I had a chip the insurance would cover repair without deductible or replacement with deductible and most of the repair shops that accepted a repair job would cover the deductible for the replacement should the repair not work. So the most you would pay would be the repair cost. Of course, if your deductible is less than repair charge you would always go for replace (with OEM would be my choice on todays heavily featured windshields).
