Production Week Scheduling Information

Recommended Posts

That's a good question. The guy at Ford gave me that date but said he didn't know if it is a build date. I was going under the assumption it was, however the dealer seems to think it is the delivery date. I was just hoping someone might know what date would show in the system that chat/call center folks would have access to. Its not the end of the world either way, but I just need to plan for removing items from my current truck prior to delivery.

Thanks again for the info!

Just curious. Is there a reason why you're not talking to your Dealer about your vehicle order status? Your Dealer has 24/7 access to the latest information and any updates to the order status.

I have spoken with the dealer and they said 8/20 for delivery. However the Ford rep gave me the 8/20 date and he thought it was the build date. Hence why I was looking for input from others that might have experience with this. I am confident in the date, but not whether it is build date or delivery date.

Is additional information typically made available to the dealer once scheduling is complete? Maybe the dealer would have more info now since the 8/20 build date (assumption Ford is correct) has been scheduled?

Ford employees and Dealers have 24/7 access to Ford's Vehicle Visibility program which provides all information on vehicle order status including scheduling, production and shipping information updates. It's updated any time there's a status update and is the most accurate and reliable source for vehicle order information and updates. It gives the vehicle VIN number when the order is scheduled, provides all the scheduling information including the dealership ETA along with the shipping information once the vehicle is produced and released from the plant. Once the vehicle is released for shipment, it even provides information on the rail carrier, the rail car number, location updates throughout the shipping process, arrival at the final rail ramp destination, etc.

Most Sales Representatives don't even know about the Vehicle Visibility reporting system and unfortunately the same is true with the Sales Managers at some dealerships. If you're talking to your dealership, you need to talk to the person that manages their vehicle orders. If they can't give you the information you require it's an indication of the dealership's competency regarding vehicle order management, etc. Should you need additional assistance with tracking updates for your order, there are several BOF members here that can assist you if you provide the VIN number.

Thanks for all the help! I will follow-up with the dealer to see if they have any new updates.

As the Edge and Nautilus are built in Oakville, Ontario, Canada and there has been speculation that a US tarrif could be imposed on Canadian built vehicles I wonder if Ford is holding off production. I have ordered a 2019 Nautilus and my dealer supposedly can not get any info on the build delay .

Curious... What does this mean? Retail orders will not be eligible to schedule until the “OK to Buy” has been achieved. Thanks.

I think it means that they'll either be building fleet models first, OR that they're building stock orders first before they do custom orders.

Sort of

When production first starts only stock orders are built until there is 5 consecutive days of production with no major defects. During this time no vehicles are shipped at all. Once the OK TO BUY is given every vehicle built before the ok is given is reinspected and, if necessary, repaired.

Only when the OK TO BUY is given will retail orders then be scheduled for production. Fleet orders are generally part of this group.

Thanks for posting this. So just to confirm, if I ordered a Mustang today, it would not start production until at least Oct 8th?

Yes but also depending on whether your Dealer has Mustang allocation for scheduling next Thursday and your Dealer has no other unscheduled retail Mustang orders ahead of yours.

So it sounds like (after they are released for shipping) the the first ones off the assembly line become dealer inventory. Would I be correct in saying that there should be a good supply of the 2019 Edge by middle October assuming production starts September 3rd?

It all depends on how quickly ok to buy is given. Could be 5 days, could be 5 weeks.

Interesting... Not being very knowledgeable in this field I would like to think the ok to buy would be sooner than later, simply because the 2019 Edge has minor changes.

Hey thanks!. So best case scenario with allocation available, no parts on back order etc from order being started Oct 8th, it would be expected to arrive at the dealer about 8 weeks later? Average is 10 weeks? Worse case 15-20 weeks? Just trying to get a handle on when I want to put the order in so I get close to a specific month or later for delivery.

The Vehicle Visibility reporting system will show the vehicle "Sent to Plant" which is the start of the production process which is much longer than just the assembly process. The reports will show the various stages of production over a period of about a week until it's reported "Produced". Once it's released for shipment the average transit time is 14 days but the Flat Rock Assembly Plant is notorious for shipping problems and delays. I've had Mustangs get released and shipped immediately and other that sat at the plant for as long as 2 months. As such, don't try to micro manage your order placement trying to have the vehicle arrive at the dealership within a specific time frame!
