I have it on VERY good authority, bulletproof in fact, that there will be NO manual option.

That would be sad even if the automatic gives better performance. That being said going forward I hope all Ford performance models at least have automatics as options, they greatly expand the sales potential of the models making sure they can profitability make a business case for them.

Shame they are using the old headlights, it looks confusingly outdated...like a modded used Mustang.

Its not the 10-speed...

7 speed DCT from the GT (Ford GT not mustang GT)?

I get looks are subjective. Actually, I think of it of a GT350 on steroids. They did so much work to make that car work well, they decided to use it as a baseline to add to. IMO that's smart to use the money wisely or Hatchet man....I mean Hackett might not let a car like this exist.

Close but it will not be from the GT. Too much torque. I believe the first batch will be coming from overseas but their will be a plant here producing them soon (Wixom?).

From I have heard from my sources and read from the forums. There will probably be two flavors (regular and R). This car was initially heavy but I've heard with extensive use of carbon fiber that they are really trimming down the weight. I would expect this to start at 65 and go to 80 for the loaded fire breather (plus ADM of course).

Geez. First they downgrade from the 5.8L tall deck to a stroked-out 5.2L short deck motor and now there won't be a tremec TR6060? This thing is starting to sound disappointing.

The solution is so simple. Do a dohc version of the upcoming 7.x, add a blower, offer it with the TR6060 and a version of the new 10-spd for those who want to be lame (or go faster at the strip haha). Done. Fastest production car made.

I think you are going to be surprised how fast this is. Offering one transmission makes the most financial and performance sense. When things start not making financial sense is when GT500 disappears.

The 7.0 liter isn't close to being produced. The next GT500 after this will probably be a hybrid (gasp).

I have no words for the blackness this brings to my soul. I am starting to believe that in my lifetime I will see a time with no manual transmission offered on any Ford.

She sounds like a smart, perceptive woman. A DCT is not an acceptable replacement for a manual transmission, IMHO.

Shes more upset about the death of the manual than I am. She actually taught me how to drive one.

Where did she put your man card when she took it? :)

I kid...she sounds like a keeper to me!

I tried to teach my wife (before she was my wife), but I didn't have the patience. Of course, I had a Bronco II, which was geared high and very hard to learn how to drive a stick on. I learned on it by putting it in 4x4 Low and learning to ease out the clutch.

I was going to get a 68 Camaro but yeah....

So wait, you were going to GET the Camaro? Oh, yeah, that's a bit different than just learning to drive on it. :)

Has anyone on here driven a performance DCT? I haven't but I am not going to pan it automatically. I love manuals too but the performance gap is just going to get bigger and bigger. Also electric cars won't use a manual either so please prepare yourself for it's inevitable death. Is it more engaging to drive? Yep. Does it make you feel like you are in control? Yep. Does it make sense to continue to make manuals when performance lags automatic/DCT transmissions and the take rate is so low? Nope. I am sure there were a lot of people saddened when horse got put out to pasture too but it's called progress. I get it, people hate change but I would think folks need to admit that manuals have lost their efficiency and speed advantage they once had.

It was both. It was supposed to be mine when I turned 18.

I agree. I could understand on the GT350, as it was already in production, and with a replacement on the horizon (I'm assuming GT350 leaves when GT500 debuts), it didn't make sense to fit the new headlights/taillights on it, but for the new one to have the old units is odd.

The Raptor still uses the pre-'18 F-150 lights too.

My A3 has a seven speed DSG transmission, and I really enjoy driving it in manual mode. But when lazy in traffic it operates just fine in the automatic normal drive. The sports mode can also be a kick in the pants for a smaller car such as the A3. An 8 speed DCT in the mustang 500 GT will be fine.

I'm sure akirby will chime in, and maybe even post a video... :stirpot:

I have driven one for about 3 laps. One word: WOW! A performance DCT is amazing, and other than just the pure fun of rowing through the gears and the number of pedals on the floor, there is nothing about a manual that is superior. The rev matching on downshifts, the speed of shifts, just everything about a well-tuned DCT is amazing!

No, and I don't care to do so. I want a clutch, dammit!

No how good it is or the advantages it holds it will never be the same. Of course you are correct with the reasons but that doesn't mean we have to like it. If someday in the future it was coming to pass that no one could driver anymore and only autonomous vehicles were allowed on the road a lot of people would be sad and pissed off, but hey its just progress. I guess i will have to take solace in the fact that when the manual disappears I can keep the last one i bought until i croak.
