Recommended Posts

Just found this-its pretty interesting to note GM and Ford-I'm guessing this is due to Pickup truck sales-and look at how low Honda and KIA/Hyundai are in relation

Definitely full sized pickups and SUVs accounting for that.

Look at the price difference between cars and utilities:

$8K on compacts, $13K on midsized and $28K on full sized.

Don't forget vans... Transit ain't cheap but Ford sells them by the bucket loads and has over 50% market share.

This is also why Ford's fleet sales are such lucrative business.

Fleet sales are the main reason ford should still build the Fusion.

Transit are profitable fleet sales, Fusion is not.

Where is the proof that Fusion fleet sales are not profitable? To suggest that Ford isn’t making a profit on Mexican made Fusions seems ludicrous.

Commercial fleet sales and daily rentals are completely different.

Look at a purchase order from a government or corporate fleet customer for Ford Fusions. The GSA (federal government) deals I've seen on Fusion Hybrids would be close to break even at best for Ford. Probably a loss though. No way Ford is helping its profitability when these cars are sold at $9,000+ off MSRP.

For passenger cars, fleets go for the lowest bid. Automakers agree to those offers to keep production and sales numbers up.

The other side of GM and Ford reducing car sales to daily rentals is due to a shift in

renter preference for Utilities, not because GM and Ford got religion on retail sales.

Our local Police department moved to Ford with the demise of the (non Aussie) Caprice. They went from CV to PI and are now mostly PIU. During that time the rest of the municipal fleet (building inspector, etc) has gone Ford. Most are Focus, with a smattering of Fusion and Escape (and some PIU). Ive assumed it facilitates maintenance as they need only be trained on/have supplies for Ford. It will be interesting to see if they stick with Ford, or go with another brand as the Focus is a big chunk of thier fleet.

The last 300 or so Focuses we built were all white for a giant fleet order. No idea who they were for though.

Fusion sedan is going away, Billy Ford confirmed it; have to accept it.

The Consumer Reports crowd will always look down on domestic sedans, even if it's good design. They nit pick over them with wrinkled noses and go "eww, it has to be an import for me".

American truck, they empty their bank account for a 4 door crew cab, with leather.
