This comes to us from a Cadillac official who confirmed the news to Autoblog. “Production of the ATS Sedan is ending due to extensive plant upgrades, expansion and re-tooling to prepare for the next generation of Cadillac sedans,” spokesman Donny Nordlicht said. The last we heard, the ATS and larger CTS would be replaced by just one mid-sized sedan called the CT5, and an even smaller Audi A3-sized competitor was also in the works, possibly called the CT3 or CT4.

Looks like the Coupe lives on for now.

LOL, why keep the coupe? What do they sell about 5 of them a month?

ATS Coupe was introduced 1 year after the sedan. Thus it has 1 more year left in its life cycle. This is similar to BMW's release schedule for 3-Series sedan vs. 4-Series coupe.

Cars.com says that in 1Q 2018, Cadillac sold 585 ATS coupes in the U.S. Less than 15% of total ATS sales. But more than 5 a month for sure. https://www.cars.com/articles/rip-cadillac-ats-another-sedan-pops-its-clogs-1420699937302/

So selling less then 50 a month warrants keeping it? That's what, roughly half a car per dealer in an entire year? Edited by blwnsmoke

Yes sir. Cadillac needs something in the compact sedan/coupe category until the new generation CT3 and CT4 comes out. The new models won't be available until next year.

There are about 900 Cadillac dealers in the U.S. That would make for about 2.5 ATS coupes sold per dealership per year on average using the 1Q 2018 sales rate. Of course some dealerships sell more, others sell fewer.

I'm not buying this argument.

5 a month was obviously an exaggeration.

So by your logic, it makes sense to keep producing it......for 195 units a month? And that's if they maintain that sales rate, which is doubtful at best. All because it debuted a year after the sedan, so it has a year left?

I wonder if it's because the Camaro and ATS coupe are built at the same assembly plant. Maybe something involving common tooling.

Is the ATS sedan built elsewhere?

I could understand this logic if the sedan and coupe a produced at separate facilities, and as you said, some components are shared between the coupe and Camaro. It's certainly a more understandable/realistic theory than rperez's.

They're both built at Lansing in the same plant.

However, I think Cadillac still races an ATS-V in one of the IMSA series so they may have to keep it in production to keep racing.

Cadillac pulled the ATS-V out of competition (Pirelli World Challenge) last fall, only the IMSA Cadillac Prototypes remain.

Exchange names for codes, like Lincoln already did, and Cadillac still insists, seems too forced to approach the Germans. Especially as long as it's a traditional "Escalade" messing up the car lineup with Cadillac codes. You make it clear that the Escalade worked, so they decided to keep their name so they wouldn't risk trading for a XT8 and losing a customer, while the others went wrong and risked CT's names to get close to the German sedans. Real names heartbeat more authentic for Cadillac, like Escalade, scale, etc.

E-s-c-a-l-a-d-e

XT5

XT4

CT6

CT5

It's a mess. Either keep all the code, or swap everything for real names.

My co-worker has a used ATS. When he told another woman we work with she said "aren't Caddy's gas guzzlers?" Some still think they still build 1976 tanks.

It is very dangerous when a luxury car brand is dedicated only to sportsmanship to offset the handicap in the luxury segment. Instead of being admired by sportsmanship, it's going to be seen as a guzzling V8 car factory, not boasting. Performance by performance I choose a Dodge Charger
