I been waiting forever and yesterday got an update on IOS for waze but it still didn't load. Then today it just worked (maybe it needed a restart?) anyway it finally works! On and it has to be on Sync 3 app NOT APPLE CAR PLAY ( you have to disable car play too but that is fine I already had it disabled I don't really care for it anyway)

Yep go try it. Make sure your Sync is updated to latest version and make sure IOS and Waze App are updated as well.(Not sure they need to be but all my stuff is at the latest version) Do a restart as well and make sure carplay disabled in the sync settings.

Website shows no updates available. Build shows as 3.0 JL7T-14G381-BJ on website. Will check vehicle later to see what build I have. If an older one, any ideas on how to get an update without going to dealer?

Sync website hasn't been that good with updates in all my years as a Ford owner, so not hopeful.

Thanks!

Well that sucks guys. Maybe my version is newer because I picked up recently? I updated my father's C-max (not sure he is active on Waze yet ) but I had to download the file onto a USB stick and update like that. I did it 2 months ago when he was visiting, the wifi update wouldn't work for shit but putting it on a USB worked. Well if you don't have it yet you should soon. Otherwise maybe run to dealer (or call first to make sure they have the update available) and bring a USB the update took like 20 mins or so in my dads car.

There is a newer version that what boredinbirmingham (and, most likely, I) have as we were among the first to take delivery. Problem is there is no way to download it on USB and wifi updates don't work. It's these little things that make Ford so annoying. They have had this update issue for as long as they have had Sync.

Yeah I noticed that too. Also it runs a little laggy compared to either Carplay nav or the sync 3 nav. Hopefully this is a start and it will get better. If you minimize the app you get a HUGE BANNER telling you it's running in the background on your phone :( I will probably still just mount my phone on my dash for long road trips until they fix this. You can have multiple apps running though I had slacker radio going and waze running together (waze of course open on phone)

That banner literally killed my excitement. Ill play around with it but I think Ill run it separately on my phone and just listen out for the traffic and cop alerts.

  • 2 weeks later...

It is slow, laggy, and the resolution is terrible. Very hard to use the controls on the Sync screen and I hate that it locks you out of the phone.

Will not be using it through AppLink.

Was hoping for a better implementation. Don't understand why the Sync system is so slow and unresponsive for this and most other tasks (you can watch it redraw the native nav maps when zooming in and out - really pathetic). Is the processor they use really they that crappy? It's been this way for many years over many Expeditions with Sync. Was hoping the Lincoln would be better, but no such luck.

On my Fusion, it works pretty well. I've used it once and had 0 complaints. Now, coming from a IT/Dev I don't expect it to have the same performance as when using on my phone. Why???? When add another layer, you add latency and there is just not much you can do to get away from that other than to develop more efficiently (which is costly and almost impossible to do). I would guess since this is the first roll out of of this, we'll see bugs and/or inefficiencies. Hopefully, we'll see some corrections to give a bit of a boost over time.

I would imagine that other manufactures have this same issue. Although, I've never used a phone Navigation with any other car UI so I can't be certain.

Im not too pleased either and just posted on another thread on here about this but Ill restate my comment here. It places my vehicle in the lower left of the screen and is zoomed out so far that it shows the entire city of Atlanta as I driver through so its impossible to see any map detail. It doesnt allow me to zoom and, as mentioned above, the locking out of the phone is the worst! I get the safety aspect of locking out but its just too much for me along with the other issues. I personally dont have any issues with the native nav so Im happy using it.

I agree I was excited at the beginning but after seeing how bad it is I just use the default nav (not even through carplay which I think also sucks) the stock nav is good enough. I still can play music and more through the sync (have the sirius app and free service from an old lifetime subscription I still have) so I'll just use that when the free sirius is over. Also not sure if I will add a data plan or just tether my phone for data. Don't need lots of monthly bills for stuff I don't use that much and have already on other devices. Even waze works great on my phone so until it works better through the SYNC I will just mount it on the dash for road trips. I kind of like that better anyway cause you can have waze going and still do other stuff on the Sync display.
