2013 Fusion SE 2.0 Electric Power Rack & Pinion

Has anyone heard of the following? After making a turn the front wheels do not return to the home position. I have to hold the steering wheel to the left a little. After a few yards of driving straight the wheels will automatically return home allowing the steering wheel to be centered again. Also, while making a right hand sweeping curve to an interstate on ramp, the car will under-steer by itself, causing me to counter-steer to avoid running off the road. I randomly get the power assist failure in my information display but have not lost power steering yet. If I get a new rack & pinion installed would it take care of both problems? Are there 2 separate problems here?

I took it to a local Ford service center and was told the rack & pinion needs replaced at a cost of ~ $2000. That's why I'm on here, hoping to see if anyone else had this happen.

The only fault indicator is the power assist failure on my information display. I don't get a service engine or traction control and I haven't lost power steering as of yet.

So, it was properly diagnosed and you are here seeking.....what....how much others paid for this type of repair? Shop it around and see if you can get it done cheaper.
