RadicalX
Lincoln recently released the first teaser video for the Aviator concept and now the company has followed up by confirming plans for a production variant. This was widely expected but the most interesting reveal was the confirmation that the company is planning to launch a second utility vehicle in the next two years. Lincoln declined to say what the second vehicle is, but noted it will help them grow their utility portfolio. Little is known about the model but it will apparently become the brands fifth utility vehicle as it will join the Aviator, Nautilus, Navigator and MKC. Of course, theres always the possibility the all-new model will replace the MKC but that seems unlikely as the crossover was recently given a facelift and wont go on sale until this summer. This deepens the mystery as speculation has suggested the MKT would effectively be replaced by Aviator. However, some older reports indicated the model could be replaced by a large crossover. Another possibility would be a new entry-level crossover that would slot beneath the MKC and battle compact crossovers such as Mercedes GLA, Infiniti QX30 and Lexus UX. Just yesterday, Ford revealed it was working on a yet-to-be-named off-road small utility so its possible the model could spawn a more luxurious Lincoln variant. Whatever form the vehicle takes, we wont have to wait much longer to find out as the model should arrive before the end of 2020. https://www.carscoops.com/2018/03/lincoln-aviator-will-joined-second-new-utility-vehicle/
Assimilator
It's likely a smaller SUV based on either the new Ford Maverick small utility or the Performance Electric Utility tentatively named Mach 1. This was actually known for a few years now since Lincoln was suppose to add 2 new models s to the lineup by 2020 according to the investor portfolio they distributed. Aviator was the one we assumed and the mystery vehicle which I was told would be a small electrified utility. We also have the new MKC arriving in the same time frame which will get a new name. I believe in a new MKC only on 2021. They've announced that the new LINCOLN compact SUV will be totally new, completing 5 SUVs. If it was the new MKC, four SUVs would prevail

Probably not enough volume for a third shift but more than enough to keep 2 running with OT and no down time.

In other words, what would the competition be/what would the target market be? Not questioning, just curious what you have in mind? akirby
Anything T6 based would be close to Explorer size. I still think there may be a T6 Everest at some point.

Planned for 2021 with NG Ranger... Rumor is that Bronco is the first of the NG T6 SUVs. Edited March 19, 2018 by jpd80

If its unitary FWD/AWD, then perhaps another plant with other versions... Edited March 19, 2018 by jpd80

If its unitary FWD/AWD, then perhaps another plant with other versions... I originally thought it was a short T6 but now I'm not so sure. It looks too small but I don't know if they can get enough off road capability out of an C3 platform.
fordmantpw
A sub-Bronco sized vehicle is going to be too small to be built on T6. IMO, of course.

Perhaps they engineer the next generation with that in mind though?
fordmantpw
Maybe today it is. Perhaps they engineer the next generation with that in mind though? Possibly I guess. I'm just having trouble grasping two completely different sized vehicles on the same architecture. I mean, if they could do that, why not build the F150 and Ranger on the same platform/architecture. I just don't see it.

There is the Troller, which is considerably smaller than the Ranger and Everest and smaller than what we are all assuming the new Bronco will be so it can definitely be done. Because that one pic of the Bronco under the sheet has a weird perspective to it and its hard to tell exactly how big it is.
