akirby
My guess would be the easiest for them to produce.....Ford Focus ST Sedan But why when they already have the Focus ST HB? What's the point?
Anthony
But why when they already have the Focus ST HB? What's the point? Because it is easy and cheap. This is Ford we're talking about.
akirby
Because it is easy and cheap. This is Ford we're talking about. But it's easy and cheap and redundant and wouldn't bring in any additional revenue (IMO). And I wouldn't put Ford Performance in the same category as Ford's other products. rmc523
It's not a Focus ST sedan, the way the character swoop goes doesn't match the trunk lid/license plate cutout.
fuzzymoomoo
Next gen Focus ST?
Pioneer
Wouldn't it be funny if it was a Transit Connect?
rmc523
Next gen Focus ST? Thought about it, but the character line doesn't match either. Basically, the character line doesn't seem to perfectly match anything current, which points toward something slated for a redesign. That is basically Edge or Fusion at this point, and we've seen Focus' hatch and trunk, neither of which look like that.
jcartwright99
Wouldn't it be funny if it was a Transit Connect? I mean it would be sheer lunacy....but hilarious and probably a lot of fun to drive.
Trailhiker
I've seen a white Transit Connect around here with two dark blue "shelby-like" stripes from hood to tailgate. It actually looks pretty good!
blksn8k2
I don't know guys, it looks an awful lot like the Fusion deck lid to me. If you pause the vid just before the end you can see the upward sweep in the crease line as well. I'm with Fuzzy on this one. They could also be using this as an excuse to redo the front bumper cover/grille area to try to match the downforce of the Camry XSE and Camaro ZL1 for the NASCAR cup series. 630land
Detroit News just put out a story about the 2019 Edge ST: http://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/ford/2018/01/11/new-ford-edge/109343260/ Must have been a midnight embargo. jcartwright99
I am so confused by Ford right now. An Edge ST? I am assuming this will replace the Sport model? If this is an appearance package with a few extra horses I will be really pissed. This thing better be able to handle like a BMW for that ST badge! If it isn't anything special Ford just went 2000's GM when they started slapping SS on just about everything. All this happening while Ford Performance may lose $$$ and cars. If they axe the GT500 and bring a watered down version of the Edge ST, I am officially done with Ford until they can find their way again. If you just want to maximize revenue and lose your soul trying to be a mix of Toyota and Tesla, go for it. I don't buy a car as an appliance. jpd80
The all-new performance SUV has a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine that churns out 335-horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. That engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, standard all-wheel drive with selectable traction control. The ST has an available performance brake package and tuned suspension. Paddle shifters allow drivers to switch into manual mode. The redesigned Edge comes in SE, SEL and Titanium trims. The standard vehicle comes with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine paired with an 8-speed transmission. All models have a redesigned center console housing the rotary gearshift dial Ford’s rolled out on some of its vehicles. ST gets 2.7 V6, 8-speed auto but also has optional brake and suspension package Base Edge gets 2.0 EB and 8-speed auto. Looks like Ford has gone for the simpler 8 speed auto design, I'll be keen to see how the ratios match up against the 9 speed.auto We may find tthat his gearbox variation a little more stable then GM's 9 speed auto and better suited to Ford's EB engines.. MadManMoon
If this doesn't have significant handling improvements and model-unique performance enhancements, it's a pathetic cheapening of the ST marque. This seems like a step backwards for Ford Performance.
jpd80
How about we wait and see how the car actually drives and handles before declaring it a fail, A larger ST is not intended as on track / Rally car so it's probably going to be a sportier Utility.

Designed to operate at city and highway speeds, it uses radar and a camera to detect slower-moving and stationary vehicles ahead and provides steering support to enable drivers to maneuver around a vehicle if a collision is imminent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centering: Helps the vehicle maintain a comfortable driving distance from vehicles ahead and helps reduce stress during long, light-traffic road trips by helping keep the vehicle centered in its lane “Edge drivers expect a sophisticated, modern driving experience,” said Cristina Aquino, Edge marketing manager. “Bringing a host of new technologies as standard and introducing these segment-first features helps ensure customers feel more confident behind the wheel.” Dual-stage airbags, side-curtain airbags, rain-sensing wipers, rear view camera and an innovative active glove box knee airbag are also standard, while front and rear ultrasonic sensors, 180-degree front and rear cameras and Enhanced Active Park Assist are offered as available equipment. Sevensecondsuv
So basically they squeezed a few more ponies out of the 2.7L, added a bunch of tech that has nothing to do with a performance package like ST, put ridiculous 21" wheels on it (adds nothing to performance but makes tire replacement $$$$$!), and slapped an ST badge on the hatch? Yawn. I guess the benefit here is that this puts them within spitting distance of the $50k mark for Edge.
