UNYboater
I've gotten this code before on our Edge (Cap-free fuel filler) & some posts seemed to indicate the filler as the likely cause. I went through the cleaning process, using the fill-tube that's in the spare tire area. The code went away but returned again after a few months. This time, the cleaning process didn't help. I'm thinking it may also be the vacuum purge valve. Thoughts? Method to test (short of $6000 worth of testing equipment)? Thanks as always! fordtech1
I bet a beer the purge valve is leaking. Cheapest, easiest way to check it is remove it from the intake and see if you can blow through it. Its a normally closed valve. If you can blow through it, its bad.

On that chance, I picked up a valve on my way home tonight. Any words of wisdom of removing the old one? I have gathered that it's on the back of the engine, near the firewall...I'll take any advice available!
fordtech1
Really pretty simple. Remove the 2 8mm bolts. Wiggle it and lift out of the intake. The hose is a quick connect so pull the tab back with your thumb and pull the hose off. The hose will snap back on with a simple push. 10 min job tops.

That was the easiest valve replacement I've ever done! You were right! I didn't expect it to be visible without removing anything else or having to reach down behind where human arms aren't supposed to go. It was done in 5 minutes! Now to see if the code goes away. The old one *seemed* to allow a little air pressure to escape but it wasn't dramatic. We'll see tomorrow! Thanks!

Either way you ruled out a super common problem. So at a minimum you know Its not the valve.
