fuzzymoomoo
47 years. That is just sad. But good luck to them I've always wondered how and why someone would want to work that long, especially doing this kind of work.

MTP'er
Wish we could either way, but can't cross the tracks. The only reason we can transfer is because. we have extra people. So in reality there is no open positions. Edited October 6, 2017 by MTP'er

MTP'er
Think about it tho, if you hire in at 18,in 30 years your 48. Can't collect full SS benefits til your 67 and that puts you at 49 years working.

Fatso
FIRST OFF ---seniority passes by at the exact same rate for everybody. The higher seniority people are usually OLDER and do you really want to be OLDER or are you just greedy and want ALL the seniority NOW-NOW-NOW.SECONDLY-The UAW does negotiate a very good national contract which by the way also includes YOU.So yes YOU TOO also benefit from the national contract.Dont you want to have seniority rights assured to you after you sweat your ass off helping Ford make $$$$ while a kid in jr. high school today is playing video games and surfing for internet porn?STOP and THINK and please try to enjoy being young,,,,,life goes by so quickly,,,and some really bad things usually start to happen when you get old.Good-Luck!!!

All I want is to not be at the bottom of the fucking list anymore, is that too much to ask? Fun fact: every assembly plant has hired new people in the last 4 1/2 years except for one, care to guess which one hasn't? Care to guess which one probably won't any time soon either? 182
Probably? More like definitely. Livonia hasn't hired a single production worker in the last 17 years.

I said assembly plant, not parts plant. I'm well aware that plants like Livonia don't hire off the street anymore.
thezip
Everyone should start in assembly. Then everything else should be a bid. I was low seniority for 10 years. There are people who were low for longer. Its life in the UAW.
one of a kind
But should 20-23 years be the low for the next 5-7 years?
Fatso
Just keep showing up Fuzzy,,,you can do it and you will get there everybody who is high seniority now was low seniority at one time. MTP'er
I'd say next contract there should be a good amount of people retiring. Because 88 & 89 were big years for hiring Mazda Auto Alliance or frap or whatever you want to call it hired around 3000, Michigan truck plant went to 3 crew and that was a couple thousand. Those people will be getting there 30 years in and If they offer buyouts that's even more of an incentive for those people to retire. Hang in there and happy holidays.
