Electrical connectors, harness

Howdy, 

   trying to simply change engine air filter on '13 C-Max.

 

One of the electrical connections will not budge. Slid the red lock up, squeezed sides of connection with thumb and forefinger as the carfare kiosk Vid recommends, nothing. 

 

What gives? This is a really basic Tech question obviously, but how did the connectors get so complicated? Was there a change up in Production? The OM doesn't even mention this connector in it's tutorial on changing air filter.

You shouldn't need to disconnect anything electrical to replace an air filter

Roger that on air filter, but sometimes those have a double seating or snap in latch on the underside also, may not be visible. Posts are old enough, must have new car by now?
