TopCat501
Thanks JPD80, great information. What is the avg days supply based on? Prior moth sales? Last 3 month avg sales? Or something else? Looks like Camaro inventory is sufficient enough to eliminate the limited inventory excuse for poor sales
jpd80
As far as I can tell, it's based on previous month's sales which can be a little misleading. Camaro is a conundrum, if we get to the end of this month and sales are still not rising, I think GM will be forced to take a lot stronger action - perhaps what potential buyers want? On another note, Escape inventory is now over 71K, so there's no excuses to not see those impressive sales figures continue. BORG
It's really fascinating to look at the inventory. Ford has all of their inventory under control and GM has allot of extremes. Ford has more vehicles in inventory than GM while Chevy is clearly tight on new high demand volume products like Malibu and Cruze.

Always appreciate your comments M, Ford has some big inventory numbers there so they have every reason to go full tilt at sales in running out '16s, so I'm wondering if next month we see some strong incentives to shift that stock along - good time for buyers. silvrsvt
The Pacifica numbers are weird...120 Day supply, but its roughly the same amount of units as the T&C that its replacing?

Anthony
I'm sure they're only going by Pacifica sales not the combined sales. Yup, it's impossible to figure out an accurate days supply going on one or two month of sales that were startup constrained. If it sells more each month (you would expect for a new product) the number sold per day goes up and the days on hand goes down....even with the same number of units on the lot. jpd80
and at best, days supply is a lagging indicator which is really a snapshot for YOY trending.- nothing more.

ice-capades
Our May month-to-date sales numbers have been very strong, especially compared to last month, but the pattern for the past few years at least is that we'll start running out of inventory on the popular models by August and be doing a lot of Dealer "Swaps" in order to get vehicles for our customers. The biggest problem with inventory is that Ford is forcing Dealers, based on the constantly changing commodity issues, to take inventory that Ford wants to build rather than what Dealers want!

Wow, that's a huge problem. Ford does a really bad job fixing their commodity issues, and I have to believe that at some point it's going to start really hurting the bottom line when it comes to sales. jpd80
Chevrolet City Express at 317 days?!?! wow. It's a statistical aberration because last month, GM sold 174 City Express...(running down inventory)

Ford does a really bad job fixing their commodity issues, and I have to believe that at some point it's going to start really hurting the bottom line when it comes to sales. The big concern is that now For has it inventory pretty well built out for summer, Imagine what Ice-capades has said about product mix and multiply that across the range. The biggest problem with inventory is that Ford is forcing Dealers, based on the constantly changing commodity issues,to take inventory that Ford wants to build rather than what Dealers want! When Ford makes a wrong bet on product mix it's the dealers that suffer, I bet we'll see a lot more incentives this summer to move all the 2016s along... FCA learned that lesson the hard way with the Dart, combined with its not exactly a strong effort in the first place.
