2017/18 Mustang vs '17 Fusion Sport

Recommended Posts

I have been kicking around the idea of getting a 2017 or 2018 Mustang EB w/auto as a touring car. I've been waiting to see if the '18 Mustang would be the mid cycle update. Will the update offer: New engines? New transmission? ect..

However, I now have a new and difficult option to ponder...

Why would I buy a Mustang EB instead of the new Fusion Sport?

Weight is nearly the same. Slight advantage goes to the 'Stang

Interior and trunk space favors the Fusion

Price is nearly the same

AWD favors the Fusion

EB power strongly favors the Fusion.

Suspension favors the Fusion

What would the members of BON do?

Edge Sport would be more practical than the Fusion. However, given just the Mustang and Fusion, I'm leaning towards the Fusion. Having a 2 door is plain impractical around here. Now if the Mustang EB was at Focus RS power levels and you needed just a simple touring car...

I agree.. The 2.7 EB appears to be a better engine then the current 2.3 EB.

However, if the Mustang would be bumped up to the RS level... That would be a better package.

The Fusion would still have AWD and a more usable seating and luggage space.

I am looking forward to the new 3.0EB MKZ and 2.7EB Fusion test reviews.

Any ideas if they will compete well with the German imports?

The RS may be too small. I prefer to have a coup, but for the room, I would settle for a sedan.

I don't want a "too small" sedan but I would sacrifice the space in coup.

There's an almost $8,000 price difference between the two choices:

The Fusion Sport V6 starts at $33,475.........LINK

The Mustang Ecoboost starts at $25,645 ......LINK

Edge Sport s even dearer at $40,400 ......LINK

Focus ST is slightly cheaper at $24,475 and Focus RS is $35,900......LINK

Value for money, you can't go past either Mustang EB or Focus ST

but if you want to spend above $30K, the field opens up considerably....

Not many companies doing stripper performance models, it shaves too much profit.

A Fusion SE with a 2.3 EB and AWD is hardly an example stripper model but

I can see why Ford saw past that easy option and elected to go with the 2.7 EB.

The Fusion Sport offers so much more of what actual buyers really want...

and which ever way you choose sedan or coupe, you can't go wrong.

Best bang for the buck would be the 5.0 Mustang GT vs the Fusion Sport. Even with an automatic and 3:55 gears it's only a $500 difference between them. The HP is a no-brainer! But if it's a family car out of necessity I'd go with the Fusion Sport.

The Mustang is a true Grand TOURING car. Even with cloth seats (I prefer them) the interior is very upscale.

If you have to ask, get the Fusion Sport.

A Fusion SE with AWD and 0 options is already a hair under 29k, you're not going to get a 2.3l awd with any suspension tuning for less than 30k.

Also shop insurance costs for both. The insurance costs could make the decision much easier.

You can't get AWD on an SE with 0 options? The only way to order AWD on the SE trim is to select the 2.0L EcoBoost option.

The Sport, with 0 options is $34,350 and there are no suspension upgrade options, at least as far as I can see on the Build & Price page.

I can't believe people are comparing the legendary Stang to Fusions and Foci..... what is this world coming too?

Given the similar powertrains involved, it's not that big of a leap.

As much as I'm a Mustang guy, if I were comparing vehicles with the 2.3EB motor...I'd likely go with the Fusion, in this situation. Any Mustang I own will have a V8.

I'm saying the only options to get on an SE would be AWD 2.0L, 201a. That is the minimum, and it's almost 29k, it was in response to jdp saying they could have done a performance 2.3l and it would have been way under 30k.

Sport also comes standard with the CCD suspension which you can't get on any other model.

A touring car is a sport passenger car.

The Fusion Sport suspension and AWD are huge factors for my indecision.

Insurance is not that big of an issue. I'm 60 years old. lol

Really looking forward to the test with the FS... It would appear at this point.. it might put the Mustang EB to shame.

Personally, I would love to have a Mustang, so I would go that route if I were you.

I have 3 kids to chauffeur around, so Fusion Sport would be perfect for me.

I believe the '17 Mustang is supposed to get the 10 speed tranny, maybe a late addition, if that makes much difference.
