They have insurance with insane premiums and deductibles. A union shop is the only place an employee is getting company paid health care with no premium.

 

The "paid" healthcare is part of your total wages and benefits package. The company is not paying it, the employee is as part of your total compensation.

Anytime a cost is incurred by any company its either passed along to the customer that buys the product or its comes out of the employees wages & benefits,

 

 

In this case it appears that the union is not negotiating to retain or improve our existing insurance structure ( while the company is posting some nice profits ) .

The union is trying to acquire control and distribution of those benefits, Huge fundamental difference.

The money originates from a product a company sells so it does come from the company. The union doesn't make a product for a means to get that money. Case in point, there are many people who work non union and still have health insurance. Actually more people work non union than they do work union. If there wasn't a union you would still have health insurance.

Does than mean 89.9% of the workforce has no health coverage since they are non-union ????

 

( Healthcare is not an exclusive union benefit )

I have yet to find anyone who is non union that has as good as medical as we do.Healthcare was a benefit fought for and won by unions that is a fact.The only reason non union people have it is to give non union workers the same benefits and to help keep unions out. Cal 50 are you just against unions in general or just the IUAW? Corporations are sociopathic organizations that care about nothing but money and power.If you thinks otherwise you are sadly mistaken.

You have obviously never worked anywhere else. The company pays for your insurance. I worked at a hospital prior to Ford and I still paid a $100 premium(deducted weekly from my paycheck) with a $2000 deductible.

 

Yes Tier 2 has a $1200/deductible but received a $600 HSA so basically its a $600 deductible. That is for a family. This is by far better than 99% of the working population. What Tier 1 has for healthcare is unheard of and probably not sustainable if the Cadillac tax kicks in.

Yes you would still have insurance but you would be paying a premium, deducted from your check weekly, for it. It amazes me how some of you don't realize how good your healthcare is currently and how different it would be without a union.
