jpd80
2.7 Ecoboost at Cleveland?
fuzzymoomoo
Yes, Cleveland will be making the 2.3 liter ecoboost, but I don't know when production is supposed to start. As for the 2.7, I haven't heard anything about it, but I suppose it's possible. I think the more likely landing spot for that might be Romeo, AFAIK they have room for it
aneekr
Many thanks for creating this thread, fuzzymoomoo (and to RichardJensen for the original)! This is an excellent reference guide. Question about Chicago Stamping: were these operations relocated recently to a consolidated site? I understand that Chicago Assembly is located within Chicago city limits, at the intersection of Torrence Avenue and E. 130th Street. Ford Motor Company operated a stamping plant in the suburb of Chicago Heights (on US Highway 30), approximately 13 miles south of Chicago Assembly. Did the latter get shuttered? 630land
The Chicago Stamping plant is in the town of Ford Heights IL, which used to be called East Chicago Heights, next to the actual Chicago Heights.
aneekr
The Chicago Stamping plant is in the town of Ford Heights IL, which used to be called East Chicago Heights, next to the actual Chicago Heights. The land on which Ford's Chicago Stamping Plant is sited was actually annexed by Chicago Heights in the late 1980s. As you noted, the village of Ford Heights was previously named East Chicago Heights. The name change took place in 1987, when East Chicago Heights attempted to add the land occupied by the Ford plant to village limits (prior to then, the land was in unincorporated Bloom Township, Cook County). East Chicago Heights, aka Ford Heights, failed spectacularly at this attempt and has since gained infamy as the most poverty stricken suburb in the USA. 630land
Ok, thanks for clarification, only remember that Ford Heights was named for the plant. But didn't know the whole annexation story. Maps of Chicago suburbs look like ink blots. Edited May 7, 2015 by 630land
aneekr
Maps of Chicago suburbs look like ink blots. That's a good analogy. To a greater extent than perhaps any other state, Illinois has a tradition of local autonomy.
Sevensecondsuv
To my knowledge, the 6.2L V-8 is going to be phased out soon if it hasn't already started So what will the SD use for the base engine then? People have speculated that it could be the 3.5EB, but this has not been confirmed in any way shape or form. I guess the V10 is ready for another go around since Ford has some level of commitment to it with the 650/750. Not that I think it's likely but they need a gas engine option. I personally would think there's some pretty significant engineering challenges involved with getting a small displacement high compression all aluminum turbo motor to stand up to the duty cycle requirements of the Superduty. jpd80
Maybe some are counting the 6.2 out way too early, if next gen Alloy body SD gets a similar weight reduction as '15 F150, yhay could be enough to save 6.2 as it is the SD gas engine across F250, 350 and 450, it fills a niche and is basically what SD truck buyers want... for now. The 6.9 diesel os simply on another plane above that and attracts different buyers. Longer term, I'd expect CGI block Ecoboost V6 or V8 to replace 6.2 in SD while 6.2 would grow larger to 7.0 liter s and replace the 6.8 V10.
