Red2002
Though not as glamorous as a trip to Germany to drive your Mercedes or BMW off the line and then stick on the boat home, I have to believe there are some car nuts like me out there that would pay a little extra fee to drive their vehicle off the line and put every inch on the vehicle themselves. I would love to drive down to KY and drive my new Expedition off the line. I have to believe there are some Mustang buyers out there that would love to do the same. Corvette does it in Bowling Green . . .
riley49
I would do that. We just ordered a 2015 Expedition and I would fly to KY and drive it home.
bolt in blue
I would have done that for my Escape! One of the coolest things at the BMW complex in Munich was watching people take delivery of cars practically off the line. One of my coworkers did it for Porsche and I think flying over and trying it out on the autobahn was just as exciting for him as actually getting the new car. 19Fuzzy55
I know that if you want you can pick up your corvette at the Corvette musuem. You have to choose that option when you order.
akirby
I know that if you want you can pick up your corvette at the Corvette musuem. You have to choose that option when you order. And you have to choose whether you want it in or out of the sinkhole.......
19Fuzzy55
Really. Mine i would want outside the sinkhole.
fordmantpw
Really. Mine i would want outside the sinkhole. Come on, where's the fun in that? Then you don't get to go spelunking to get it out!
msmithjh
Count me in on driving my Expy off the line. Wouldn't have to ask twice.
19Fuzzy55
I'd fly there in a heart beat to do it.
phil1336
With all the delays in production due to "commodities" holds and shortages, be prepared for a long Hotel stay before your Vehicles actual Build date finally happens.
rscalzo
The vast differences in production volume would make it difficult. Insurance regulations another. I could see it so a lower production car such as the Corvette of limited edition Mustang.
19Fuzzy55
thats true never thought about it that way.
fuzzymoomoo
Didn't they do something similar to this in Wixom with the GT or am I thinking of something else?
akirby
Didn't they do something similar to this in Wixom with the GT or am I thinking of something else? They did final assembly there and I think it was to get around some regulation or rule.
wildjuanpablo
Considering how long it is taking to get our new Explorer, that would be an excellent option!
bhawk587
I would absolutely love to drive my 15 Mustang off of the line. It would also help in some of the shipping costs.
heimyford
This is a cool idea, it would be fun to pay a little extra to do the plant tour and then drive your new vehicle off the line and home putting the first mile on it your self. RayoVac
Yup... I think the Volvo program is pretty cool. I would sign up in a heartbeat to go up to Oakville and drive home my new MKX or just drive it off the line, but I am close enough I could pretty much just drive it home. I am only about 7 hours away.
jmuratides
Deffinetly would be great experience. I watched the boeing factory process and I am sure it would be something comparable on people would see their cars being constructed. Maybe one day. Krotz31
My girlfriend was beating our sales manager up pretty bad to try and get this to happen, I understood it really isn't feasible with the number of f150s produced/sold, but I would love the experience
carrera911
I'd like to add to this that photo shots from the assembly process of the owner's car would also be great. You get to basically experience the production of your car.
03expy07
How about some kind of webcam access to various “non proprietary” sections of the assembly line including the drive off so owners can track their build.
donjksr
Even if not off the line, the option to pick it up at the factory instead of "awaiting shipment" and "in transit" for 28 days would be nice.
ice-capades
Even if not off the line, the option to pick it up at the factory instead of "awaiting shipment" and "in transit" for 28 days would be nice. The average transit time is 14 days nationwide once a vehicle leaves the plant not counting delays at the plant itself. The worst plant for delays is the Flat Rock Assembly Plant. As for taking delivery at the plant, not even Dealers can pick up vehicles at the plant with the exception of the Transits which is new in the last month or so because of the problems shipping them and the extensive backlog of vehicles at the Transit plant. StromSpeed
This would be very cool. Or at least a pic of your car rolling off the line would be sweet!
