battery on 2013 Edge Sport

Got a new "used" 2013 Edge Sport with 3,000 miles on it. I only drive it when the sun is shining. It was parked for over a week in my garage. My husband pulled it out of the garage the other night after it had been parked for a week to work on his truck. Then started it up and pulled it back in garage. Today pulled it out of garage this afternoon to wash another vehicle in the garage. When I backed it in the garage later and shut it off, the touch screen said "battery saver system off-power off battery or start engine"....I have never seen that before. Certainly the battery wouldn't drain down in just over a week of not running would it. I have found other people complaining about this message but how do I know if I do have a low battery? I don't keep it locked so that the security system isn't draining the battery while it sits...any ideas? :banghead:

It will drain down over a week of sitting uncranked. It has to listen for remote start or other keyfob signals among other things. When you started it without letting it run for a few minutes to recharge the battery you drained it even further, then you did the same thing again. You should crank it every 3 days or so and let it run for at least 5-10 minutes. Or get a simple battery minder to keep it charged. It will help the battery last longer.

what I figured had happened...I wondered in my effort of not getting it out only on perfect sunny days, if i'd kill the battery. Usually drove it once a week on a nice day. Now with winter, cinders and salt on the roads, it'll be tougher to get the perfect day. I had wondered about one of those battery tenders. It probably would have been ok if my husband hadn't pulled it out twice without letting it run a bit and temps were in upper 30's...so of course, i totally blame my husband for this :finger: I usually keep the one fob laying in the cupholder. With it being "in" the car, will it make the car "listen" more than if it was out of the car? I need to do a sync update but after reading about that, it scares me about as much as doing an update on my laptop....I love the fancy stuff, but to be honest, you gotta have a little respect for some of the older vehicles that aren't as dainty, and that the average shade tree mechanic somewhat has a clue about and luckily my "everyday" SUV doesn't have to be babied as much. Love this Edge though...too much...I want to keep it as a shrine in my garage....but a shrine that will at least start!!

Well that was a given either way........

You could probably leave it for 10 days - 2 weeks and it would still crank. But cranking it twice without letting it run to recharge will take it over the edge. I don't think the keyfob location matters.

If you're going to leave it for more than a week at a time just get an inexpensive battery minder. They work great. This one is only $20:
