Ovaltine
Does anyone find it ironic (and a bit humorous) that I saw the following cartoon in the Detroit News of all places yesterday? The Dinette Set by Julie Larson Clickable link: http://www.comics.com/creators/dinetteset/...t-20060807.html A little enlightening info about the author and strip: Julie noted a dull, repetitive lifestyle from one suburb to the next. But when she took a closer look, she saw it was only monotonous on the outside. Underneath, she observed a lively hustle and bustle of people who truly enjoyed every moment of belonging to the masses. Mass consumerism was exciting and colorful! Julie embraced it and saw it as a theater filled with stars whose favorite ride was 'The Rat Wheel." Julie began writing The Dinette Set comic in 1990, then called Suburban Torture, offering a satire on middle class culture. The Dinette Set became syndicated in 1997. When asked where Julie gets all of her ideas, she admits there is only one way to write a daily comic: write about what you know. "I make no bones about who's really talking in The Dinette Set," says Julie, who is writer, director and cast of The Dinette Set. "If we can't make fun of ourselves, who will?" -Ovaltine Edited August 8, 2006 by Ovaltine
630land
Not a fair comparison, BMW is luxury and Ford is mainstream. Sure are lots of ballons and all at Toyota and Hyundai lots. And yes they do have incentives. Sonatas have rebates of $2500. Toyota has some too, just not as blantant. And what do you call "Toyota Sellathon"? 2005Explorer
Mr. Opportunity, a cartoon guy that is the spokesperson for Honda's year end clearance sale has been advertising non-stop on TV the last couple of weeks. It is false to say that non of the Japanese or Korean companies don't have sales or incentives. They ALL use these except some luxury brands and even they do... What do you call...the "Lexus December to Remember" sale that happens every year with those VERY annoying ads that attempt to make you believe if you really love someone you will buy them a Lexus for Christmas. I still love the one where they get their 16-18 year old daughter a new "CD player" for Christmas...referring to the one installed in her new Lexus as it sits in the driveway with a big bow on it. If anyone wants to complain about people not observing the true meaning of Christmas they should point right at the Toyota Corp. with those stupid Christmas commercials that glorify the wealthy and the commercialism of Christmas. Valid points which bring me back to my subject line regarding "piling on". I wonder why a national cartoonist chose Ford of all the vehicle manufacturers to illustrate their point. Is there a virtual/perceived "Kick Me" sign taped on Ford's back right now? -Ovaltine

Heck the more Ford gets kicked around the more I want to see them succeed. I love to cheer for underdog and really most Ford products built today are excellent products...it is just that others want us to think they are all junk. I think the media knows that if Ford goes down it will be a really exciting news event to cover.
