The 10 greatest cars that were never built

Recommended Posts

http://jalopnik.com/5925108/the-ten-greatest-cars-that-were-never-built/gallery/1

#5: Ford Interceptor

#4: Ford GT90

#2: Marc Newson/Ford 021C

#1: 1941 Ford Plastic Car

Now, I overall agree with this list but, I understand why they weren't built at the time. Not a bad article.

The Caddy Sixteen is hands down my favorite among them.

49 concept car.

I hated that J Mays retro thing.

For me it was the MKR,

An opportunity for Lincoln to get a well designed RWD and an opportunity for FoA to get a next gen Falcon.

For me, it was the Mercury Meta One. In my opinion, it could have made Mercury relevant. It should have immediately replaced the Explorer derived Mountaineer on Lincoln/Mercury lots across the country. For the handful of people that really wanted a 4X4 truck derived Mercury SUV who's purchases would have been lost to the GASP Lincoln Aviator of the same vintage. They could have sold many many many times as many to customers and made the name relevant. Also, it wouldn't have taken anywhere near as much development as any of the other vehicles on the list.

I like how they put up the Interceptor as a response to the 300, but forget to mention that Ford had done the 427 Concept well before the 300 rolled out.

49 concept car.

Yeah, I liked that "lead sled" concept, too. I'd go with that or the Interceptor; I like what the MKR was supposed to be, but not the styling.

I forgot about that one. Thanks! At least it introduced the direction of the Fusion's styling. I really liked the 1st gen Fusion when it came out.

OMG! That red thing is HIDEOUS! It looks like a plastic ferrari nose on a fiero rear. Seriously, ford actually made this and not some college kids trying to bling out their hand-me-down from an older brother?

GACK!

I like the interceptor but was instantly pulled to the Marc nusan/021c. It looks like an old english escort/rally car and I think it would of sold a shitload. Say a 2.0L engine, 5 spd manual and rwd, that thing would of been a heck of a lot of fun for teenagers.

The plastic car would of been revolutionary, to bad many of Henry's idea's never made it to production.

Or others idea's too for that matter.

Like..... the "compression ignition" engine was designed for vegetable/plant oil so countries without oil reserves could get involved in the new "industrial revolution". Funny thing how rudolf diesel shows up face down in the english channel a few years later and then....the waste crap oil companies couldn't give away suddenly has a use and is aptly named..DIESEL fuel...even though it destroys the first engines until they add sulpher/etc.

It was done nearly 30 years ago!

Looks like it was further evolved into the GN34 program

Hideous? No. 30 years old, and part of a different styling epoch. For its time it's a reasonable design.

An AZTEK is hideous. :)

I wouldn't put any of those cars in my top ten. The GT90 was a piece of garbage, the interceptor looks Chinese, the green one lacks basic exterior features required for road use, and the plasticar was cost prohibitive.

This article goes to show you how ignorant most people are... Kinda like the 2008 election results.

I would still like to see a Ford 4 door sedan with RWD like the Interceptor and the VW Microbus was way cool, but the greatest vehicle never built will always be the SVT Sport Trac Adrenalin with the Supercharged DOHC V8 from the 03/04 Cobra...

07_SportTracAdrenalinConcept_Pic1.jpg

Not to be confused with the production Adrenalin "appearance only package"...

I would so have one of those instead of my Edge right now if they had produced it.

The GT90 was a piece of garbage,

It's all opinion. Mine is that the front and sides of the GT90 are excellent, but the back is — ewwww. :)

Wow. Didn't realize how similar the Messenger was to that.

The Cougar II and especially the Messenger should have been made.

And the GR1 http://www.seriouswheels.com/cars/top-2005-Ford-Shelby-GR1-Concept-Aluminum-Body.htm

I agree with the Adrenaline...it would have been a fun ride!

But, I would have to with the Tonka concept as one of my favorites. Not so much for the truck, but for the hydraulic hybrid powertrain that would have been sweet in an F250.

Why couldn't Ford have put that Tonka frontend on the Superduty rather than the relatively fugly one that's actually on there now?

Good question! And why does the current generation Super Duty have 1970's style Dodge pick-up taillights? :headscratch:
