Detroit's Midsize SUV Problem

I don't see why people make such a big deal about "dated platforms". Yes, the body-on-frame is old, but is there any real advantage to a new chassis when the old one does so well in crash testing?

I wouldn't care if they just kept the panther chassis as is, and just did drivetrain and styling changes every few years. It would help keep costs down and would be as nice as anything on the market now. Ford just needs to update it and do some advertising.

i agree completely. the body of frame design is ancient, and teh panther platform dates back to 1979, despite huge advancements in 2003 to the frame, the basic design has not changed one bit. but why shoud they change it? i drive a marauder and i love it. its big, while not feeling too big, very safe, steady, and virtually indestructable. i was rear ended, and all that needed replacing was the plastic bumber cover, no other damage. ford did to the panther cars (crown vic, marquis/marauder, town car) what they did to the taurus. the taurus was a great car when it came out, then they didnt redesign or update it for 10 years. when they finally did, they went so far out to crazy land n the redesign that their sales plummented. then they left that basi design stagnate for another 10 years before mercifully putting it out of its misery. ford needs to get on the ball and actually redesign their cars on occassion. the interior for example, of my 2003 marauder loos exactly the same as my dads 1992 crown vic. sad.
