As many as one million people flooded into Washington for a massive rally organised by conservatives claiming that President Obama is driving America towards socialism.

The size of the crowd - by far the biggest protest since the president took office in January - shocked the White House.

Demonstrators massed outside Capitol Hill after marching down Pennsylvania Avenue waving placards and chanting 'Enough, enough'.

Wall Street Journal, owned by Rupert Murdoch and hardly the bastion of liberalism, said it was "tens of thousands", not millions. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125276685577405975.html

Your use of of the London Daily Mail as a source is comical. The Daily Mail is a rag just barely a notch above supermarket tabloids.

Yoou guys are laughable......all of a sudden this is a rag....let me guess...that's always been you position on this publication....no matter the topic........you are so transparent...almost as bad as Mark....

For all the whacko, nut job, and fringe thinking paranoids accusing this President of destroying the country, the fact remains it's some of his extreme critics who risk damaging the reputation, honor, and fabric of American society with their lunatic fringe accusations.

And I aim that comment at some of the more extreme posters on this forum, without equivocation or regret.

I fully expect the Congressional elections next year to, at the very least, interesting. But the vehemence of some of those protesting is scarier than what they're protesting. The knee jerk narrow mindedness of some people continues to surprise me.

If that surprises you...you need to get out more.....you're obviously living a very sheltered life.....

Considering the stupidity of some of the anti Obama people in this forum, maybe I shouldn't be surprised. They don't want to discuss anything that changes the status quo.

I want less government interference in my life.........that's not status quo........
Everyone wants less interference in the areas that are important to them. In other areas, especially other peoples private lives, some conservatives have no problem advocating government interference in their lives.

Sounds as if you wouldn't mind a little interference in yours.......I guess you want to pick and choose....

Whether you think I'm bad or not, doesn't change the fact that there weren't anywhere near a million people at Dick Armey's Astroturf protest. The whole thing is fully sponsored by coroprate interests and Fox News, just like many of the TEA Parties.

I could be wrong, but I think you are too easily dismissing these people.

Here is a link to another article from the NY Times. Below the photo is "More Photos" Click on that. What strikes me is the appearance of dissimilarity between the protesters and the apparent homemade nature of their various props.

Also remember, the rally in DC was concurrent with other rallies around the country.

I liked this part the most from the whole story. It makes my point rather well.

"President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and Senator Reid have called those who disagree with them terrorists, nazi, un-American, etc.

However, when President Bush was in office, "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism".

Still in the name calling huh Len? No one with a mind, a plausible concern, real worries would question Obama huh? You don't need to applogize for anything you say. But you are quickly marginalizing your position as you accuse others of doing.

Is it really so hard to make your point with out the colorful metaphors?

Peace and Blessings

Well. That would be the difference between the well oiled and smooth running PR machine of the Dems v/s the loose handed approach the Rep have been accused of. I for one am glad you saw this 'home made' signage and that it is not all doctored up by Insty Prints and a political budget. Just a bunch of people with Sharpies!

The 2010 elections are going to be the saving grace of this country, Obama will not be able to inflict too much more damage before then ( hopefully) and the American public has woken up to the propaganda machine that is the Obama administration and the Democrat party. They won't even be able to ram through Cap and tax or any ridiculous healthcare plan before then so things are not looking soo bad right now. These wacky liberals need to stop calling themsevles "progressives" and just call themselves what they are which is power hungry socialist's who are 100% anti American.

The "Bury Obamacare with Kennedy" signs are clearly mass-produced. I don't doubt that there are many who didn't like Obama from the start and are heartfelt about their protest. Some of it is probably based on race some are just haters of all things Democrat. There are likewise many on the left who felt that way about Bush, Palin and all things Republican. The home-made appearance of the signs isn't necessarily proof. I saw plenty of "Home-Made" signs being passed out in the last few elections on both sides.

And here lies the root of your ignorance. You assume that everyone who disapproves is conservative. Perhaps the reason why we're so pissed is because we're not conservatives. That's the problem with you radicals. All you see is Republican and Democrat. You know, there are those of us that are smarter than the parties. You know, people who think for themselves... People that take sides based on results, not colors or classes, this party or that party...

Like some people critical of Obama aren't into name calling? Give me a break. Question Obama is one thing, and it's legitimate - hell, I don't like everything this administration has proposed, or has already done. Bush was right - dissent is the highest form of patriotism. But some of these people are are as off the deep end as you can get. They've had a bug up their ass since the election, and it's only been building. Things are as polarized as ever, and I'm tired of it. If Obama, Reid and Pelosi are contributing to it, using words like Nazi, then they're wrong too.

One, I'm no radical. Two, I'm no party member. I may vote Democrat, but that's because the far right social conservatives don't leave me much choice, other than to maybe vote Libertarian, and to me that's a throw-away-vote. What I'm seeing is more disapproval coming form the conservatives, not the independents, at least not yet. And the polarizing is coming from conservatives and the liberals, both sides trying to sway the independents, with the conservatives being the loudest.

I looked through all 8 of the NY Times photos (and the photos in Sprinter's link) and never saw one of those. What are you referring to?

I watched a portion of the coverage on C-Span last night, and I saw an old lady standing next to a man with a long beard wearing (what appeared to be) a military hat standing next to a man in a dress shirt and tie standing next to a young couple.

No doubt that some of the motivations you listed could be true, however I still think you too easily ignore their numbers. Given the fact that the Democrats (in general) were pretty quiet on Saturday (while all this was going on), I'd say they knew enough not to be so dismissive.

Anyone who votes for one party or another is a radical. By doing so you endorse revolution. Don't you know what happens when one party falls in a two party system? The victorious party overthrows the established government. Think that's crazy? Try naming a single instance when either party has surrendered power willingly.

After the way I got personally burned by Michigan's tort reform, I can't support the GOP as a whole. That said, I still support my House rep, a dn he's a Republican (Thaddeus McCotter).

You are a true liberal. Just come out of the closet and admit it.

You might check back a year or more in this forum and check my position on Bush. I will bash anyone in power that is not serving the general interest of the common middle class American. And this country is in this dire position of a-holes like yourself who consider voting for any other then democratic or republican as a "throw away vote".
