Any idea when the 2009 Escapes will be hitting the dealership's lots. The improvements are worth it for me to wait but only for so long.

A dealer told me ,won't see them till at least August, I am gonna wait it out ,your best bet is to put in your order the first day your allowed ,probably in May.

I thought I saw it mentioned that April would be the month. As for putting stock in what a dealer tells you, just think about the source and you have to wonder about the validity of an August time frame.

I have to agree about the dealer comment. I had one in 98 tell me that the 4.0 SOHC engines were scarce and I should take the 4.0 he had in stock.

Dealers will want to sell off their 08 models first and probably hope that the August date will push buyers into the older version.

I'd trust the word of those on the line before the dealer.

Hopefully it will be sooner than later. I'll be in the market for a replacement for my 99 Explorer. It runs great but I'm thinking it's time and another Explorer is not going to fill my requirements. If May or June isn't the delivery time unfortunately I'll be looking elsewhere.

I know the 08 and 09 MSRPs will be similar, when the 09s come out do they usually offer the same incentives? Today I can get $2000 cash back plus $1000 Ford Credit bonus cash on an '08. I'm just wondering if the incentives would be the same. Honestly, I think right now I'd rather save $2000 in cash and get an 08. I don't think an improved transmission and a few extra HP would be worth the extra dough. The other option is to be patient until Ford begins offering higher incentives on their 09s, but I'm not the patient type.

All things done, how big of a difference will this new transmission and engine make? If you had the choice today, would you spend the extra $2000 for the updated powertrain?

usually escapes sell out and come out early(think april/may).

usually whenever a new model year comes out the incentives DROP.

if they change the vehicle too significantly then they may not have any incentives at all.

I do work for a dealer, but I keep my CSI in the 90s and have many loyal customers, because I deal straight forward.

not asking for business, just sharing information

good luck getting what you want!

I'm willing to wait for a few months as my wife's car isn't fully paid off until mid May. As far as the engine/drive train, I thought the same thing. However I feel the combination will make for a somewhat better vehicle on the road. That plus the availability of the SYNC system is a plus. With vacations scheduled I wouldn't be ready to take delivery until mid June in any case.

Before I get on my soap box, let me apologize up front to any car salesman who actually have product knowledge and integrity, for I have not yet encountered your kind. That being said: I get absolutely nauseated when I have to talk to a dealer. Last week I asked one when the new Fusions were due, and he acted like I was a purple Kool-Aid drinker for thinking the Fusion was changing. I had to tell him about the updated styling & new powertrain choices. All I wanted from him was a target release date. In 1985 I had one swear up and down that the new 1985 Mustang GT I was looking at had an independent rear suspension. I had to educate him about the live 8.8" axle. I had another verbally abuse my wife about where we were coming up with cash to pay for our new 2005 Escape, even though we provided employment history & payroll proof. She called me at work from the dealership, in tears, and I told her to leave. We took our business to another dealer. I could make a fortune as a car salesman if there were such a thing as a dealership that didn't want you to lie and otherwise act like scum. "What do I have to do to get you to sign today" is a phrase that would never cross my lips. Not to paint with a broad brush, but are car salesman generally people that cannot succeed in other careers?

I found this info on another forum about the production dates:

2009 Initial Order Acceptance: 04/17/08

2009 Production Scheduling Begins: 05/15/08

2009 Production Start Up: 06/23/08

Source: www.donlen.com/build_out_start_ups.html

If it takes 6-8 weeks from the production start-up then the August time frame seems about right. I welcome any updated or more acurate information as things do change as the dates approach.

There should be some dealers that would be willing to take an order from you late next month. That way you can save up some money and get exactly what you want. The dealer should give you a decent price since their costs are lower. The key is finding a fleet salesperson and not a retail one that stands around the lot most of the day.

Another plus besides what you've already mentioned is that the 09s will have definitely have better resale value down the road, especially if they get better MPG.

Update*

I just noticed that the source I used for quoting the production dates for the 2009 Hybrids has updated all times for both the Ford and Mercury to TBD.

Not sure what this means, but it is possible they could moving the dates. I heard a rumor that pre-ordering could begin as soon as the end of March but this was definately not confirmed. Again, if anyone else finds something more accurate, please give an update.

04/17/2008 2009 MY Escape Unscheduled Order Bank Opens

05/15/2008 2009 MY Scheduling Begins

06/23/2008 2009 MY Job #1 - Production Starts

Thanks for the update. I was concerned when I saw the new Donlen.com dates but knowing Donlen is a fleet management company, I was suspicious of thier dates.

-second thought-

ice-capades - are your dates for the Hybrid? Donlen shows the same dates for the non-hybrid Escapes, however, they list October for their production start up for the Hybrids.

I haven't heard anything specific about 2009 MY Escape Hybrid production yet but will post a note here if I do. Scheduling for the Hybrids has been nothing short of a disaster for many Dealerships with the average time for retail orders is approximately 16 weeks. We have to call our Ford reps on a regular basis asking to get sold Hybrids scheduled for customers.

Did you order the updated 3.0 V6 or the new 2.5 I4?

I haven't ordered anything. I never order a car or truck but find them on the dealer's lot. If the 09 is delayedmuch past June I will pick up a 08. the dealers have tons left in this area. If not the 08, I'll look around at the other manufacturers offerings.

How much a delay is it, from when production starts, do they actually start showing up at dealers? Could it be not until August?

that is not always uniform - If Ford just jumps into it and quickly start building at full speed, you are looking at 6 weeks or so. so mid-July. However if they start the new production slowly, you will see a trickle for 6-10 weeks before most dealers have a stock built up.

However this is not that much of an issue if you order one - they will get built sort of quickly. But if you are waiting for your local dealer to have a nice stock for you to pick from, and if Ford decides to take it slow with the new production you are looking at least at mid-august. (look at the new Malibu - GM was so concerned about quality they kept building them little by little for over 2 months. The car went into production in October, but dealers were not able to build up stock until mid-January. But that is an extreme case)

Just saw an update at http://www.donlen.com/buildstart_trucks_ford.html

2009 Hybrid order acceptance starts April 17th; production startup isn't until October :censored:

Um, is this 100% accurate? The dealer said production will start in June, but are they mistaken this for the regular Mariner? I'm looking to buy an 09 Hybrid, and two dealers assured me production will start in June. Are they simply mistaken for the V6 Mariner, or is their information accuarate?

On a side note, I asked the sales person if we could make up a written agreement stating that if I don't recieve the car by August 31, 2008, I may ask for further discount or service etc. I haven't worked out the details, but what do you all think about this approach? I just don't want to be told August and recieve it in December..

They said I'd have to talk to management about it.
