Focus Sales slipping in Europe down 8% this year

Focus is still 3rd best seller overall (not only in its C segment), which is pretty impressve when you consider it is a dated model and selling against some very good new recently released cars.

The refresh for 2008 will keep it in the top.

BTW which car was #1 overall in Europe for 2006, the Focus.

Can you imagine if the North American Focus was the #1 seller in North America. Now that would be something!! The 2008 N.A. Focus I don't think will accomplish such a feat.

Ford Focus sales are on a slide down 8% on last year, VW Golf moved up to number 1 spot in Europe for the first time in ages in October.

 

European Car sales were up 5.6% in October on last year, Fords rise for the month was 4.8%.

May be it could be that they now only count the focus not the focus and focus cmax together

Yeah. It would mean that there were no longer trucks for sale anywhere. That would be something.

 

 

 

Oh, wait, I forgot, the U.S. is just Western Western Europe, we do things exactly the same here. Either that or Europe is just a few more Blue states in the U.S. of A. There's no difference to speak of.....

 

Reality check: 12 of the top 20 vehicles in the U.S., and 8 of the top 10 sold through July of this year were NA market exclusives.

 

Compare that with 0 of the top 10 vehicles sold in Europe.

 

This ain't Europe.

My guess, drop in Focus sales = drop in demand for larger vehicles due to gas prices (or diesel prices).

Saying 'best selling car' as a comparison to 'best selling overall vehicle' is not a 1:1 comparison. By eliminating one of the largest segments of the NA market, you selectively ignore the NA market in order to make it appear more like the EU market.

 

Even so, Ford will never build enough Focus capacity to vie for the #1 spot. US Focus will never be built at 2 plants, and 2 plants worth of output is required for the #1 spot in the U.S.

No. It is about "best selling vehicles". Pretending that trucks don't count clouds your judgment. The reason why there are no trucks on the list of best selling vehicles in Europe (whatever 'Europe' that those records are from), is because they aren't that popular.

The European market for new cars demonstrated significant growth of 5.6% (or 69,183 units) in October 2007 compared to the same month last year, with a total volume of 1,298,704 units. YtD, the total market has increased slightly, with growth of 0.8% (102,541 units) to a total 13,333,615 units.

The Volkswagen Golf was Europe’s top-selling new car in October 2007 with 40,370 units sold (up 20.9%), ahead of the Peugeot 207 with 39,230 units sold (up 25.1%), Opel/Vauxhall Corsa with 31,192 units sold (up 37.5%), Renault Clio (31,016 units), Opel/Vauxhall Astra (29,937 units), Ford Focus (29,235 units), Fiat Punto (28,766 units), Ford Fiesta (25,032 units), Volkswagen Passat (24,987 units) and Volkswagen Polo with 24,925 units sold (up 1.5%).
