About 150 General Motor Co. dealers are parting ways with Cadillac instead of investing in costly upgrades required to sell electric cars, according to FOX Business. GM recently gave the dealers the choice: accept a buyout ranging from $300,000 to more than $1 million to exit the brand or spend about $200,000 to upgrade their dealerships for the sale of electric vehicles. About 17% of Cadillac’s 880 US dealerships agreed to take the offer to end their franchise agreements for the luxury brand, because many of them own other GM brands like Chevrolet and Buick and don’t sell many Cadillacs. That decision illustrates that even as the value of electric vehicles rises, many car industry insiders remain skeptical about selling and investing in the products. Dealers are weighing costly facility investments like electrical-system upgrades against uncertainty about demand for the vehicles, which now account for about 2% of U.S. vehicle sales. Some retailers say they are putting off orders of electric models, worried they will sit too long on their lots. Even in markets where electric vehicles are more popular, like San Francisco, dealers say the lack of commuting during the pandemic has led to a drop off in demand for cars like GM’s Chevrolet Bolt. https://nypost.com/2020/12/06/unplugged-cadillac-dealers-ditch-brand/

PHOENIX — When you make big investments in a pickup to improve fuel economy — think Ford's aluminum-body F-150 or the mild-hybrid system on Ram's 1500 — you expect significant results. So how does General Motors explain shifting to a four-cylinder turbo for its redesigned full-size pickups and getting little gain in combined EPA fuel economy ratings over the previous generation's V-6? As a work in progress. link: http://www.autonews.com/article/20181119/OEM06/181119749/gm-chevy-silverado-mpg-4-cylinder-engine

Donald J. TrumpVerified account @realDonaldTrump 6h6 hours ago More Very disappointed with General Motors and their CEO, Mary Barra, for closing plants in Ohio, Michigan and Maryland. Nothing being closed in Mexico & China. The U.S. saved General Motors, and this is the THANKS we get! We are now looking at cutting all @GM subsidies, including.... Donald J. TrumpVerified account @realDonaldTrump 6h6 hours ago More ....for electric cars. General Motors made a big China bet years ago when they built plants there (and in Mexico) - don’t think that bet is going to pay off. I am here to protect America’s Workers!

Last month, General Motors announced that it will no longer report its sales results on a monthly basis. The Detroit-based automaker will share sales data on a quarterly basis instead. The move breaks an auto industry tradition that has lasted longer than similar changes in sales reporting in the technology and retailing, along with other sectors. Let’s explore what’s behind GM’s decision. GM insists that a mere thirty days is too short a time frame to determine trends related to sales, demand, and supply in the automotive industry. Like other publicly-traded firms, the automaker already reports its financial results on a quarterly basis, rather than monthly. “Thirty days is not enough time to separate real sales trends from short-term fluctuations in a very dynamic, highly competitive market,” Kurt McNeil, GM’s U.S. vice president for sales operations, said in a statement. “Reporting sales quarterly better aligns with our business, and the quality of information will make it easier to see how the business is performing.” As any amateur statistician will tell you, however, more (accurate) information – not less – is key to trend and pattern derivation. But we’ll save that topic for another time. For now, we’ll conclude that GM wants to control the flow of sales-related information for its own benefit. general motors GM delists from Toronto Stock Exchange
bank_on_carrie posted a topic in Competing Products
Yes, the mightly GM has fallen. And what a disastrous month it has been for them!! As per recent announcement, General Motors has applied to delist from the Toronto Stock Exchange. GM says that "the costs associated with maintaining a dual listing are no longer justified." The question remains the same: If this isn't a freefall, what is? -
Chevy released a new commercial that turns up the heat by also calling into question some of Ford's performance claims for the Super Duty. In the spot, former football star Howie Long and Eric Stanczak, chief engineer, full-size trucks at General Motors, have the following exchange before the toolbox drop: Long: "You hear after our toolbox test where the F-150 aluminum bed got punctured, they've now beefed up the bed of their new Super Duty?" Stanczak: "Oh, yeah? Let's test it." Long: "Is that the same toolbox they used in the steel vs. aluminum bed test commercial?" Stanczak: "That's correct." Long: "Totally empty?" Stanczak: "Yup." Long: "Nothing in there?" Stanczak: "You got it. You ready?" Stanczak then places the red metal toolbox on the side of the bed and shoves it off, gashing a hole in the Super Duty bed. Long: "They made the aluminum bed of the Super Duty 30 percent stronger, and the toolbox still punctured the bed." http://www.autonews.com/article/20170717/RETAIL03/170719780/chevy-pokes-a-hole-in-fords-truck-again ------------- If the first ad doesn't work, try, try again!

GM announced the fuel economy numbers for both the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and its fraternal twin GMC Canyon today, and those numbers are about what we expected—good, but not great. In fact, the 2.5-liter I-4's ratings are only a little bit better than the Colorado and Canyon's V-6 EPA ratings. Two-wheel drive, four-cylinder Colorado/Canyons with a six-speed automatic transmission get an EPA estimated 20 mpg in the city, and 27 mpg on the highway, with a combined rating of 22 mpg. Trucks with a manual transmission, because it’s slightly heavier, will get an EPA estimated 19/26/22. http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2014/09/2015-chevrolet-coloradogmc-canyon-i-4-epa-ratings.html
