  1. Yes, selling price is a factor but there are still a lot of customers that simply don't like, want or need the utility of an SUV, CUV and/or don't like the high seating position of SUV/CUV's. As sedan or coupe availability is reduced, those potential customers are forced to move to other brands that offer vehicles that fill their needs, etc.
  2. Very noticeable improvement in site performance... long overdue!
  3. Lincoln Corsair Among Most Satisfying Luxury SUVs of 2024 https://fordauthority.com/2024/03/lincoln-corsair-among-most-satisfying-luxury-suvs-of-2024/ The Lincoln Corsair – which was just treated to a mid-cycle refresh for the 2023 model year – continues to rack up accolades as a favorite in the compact luxury crossover space. Most recently, that includes making the cut on Consumer Reports‘ list of the 10 best luxury SUVs on sale right now, as well as one of the most satisfying models in its segment as well. Thus, it should probably come as no surprise to learn that the Lincoln Corsair also ranked among Consumer Reports‘ most satisfying luxury SUVs of 2024, too. As is always the case, CR‘s list of the most satisfying vehicles comes straight from its owner surveys, and more specifically, one particular question – “given the opportunity, would you buy or lease this vehicle again?” The percentage of owners that respond with a “definitely yes” are what constitutes a vehicle’s overall score. When determining this most recent set of rankings for 2024, Consumer Reports limited eligible vehicles to include only compact and compact luxury SUVs/crossovers, which were then divided up by segment. In the compact luxury SUV space, the Lincoln Corsair ranked fifth with an overall score of 72 out of 100 possible points, placing it behind the Lexus NX450h+, the BMW X3, the Lexus NX350h, and the Mini Cooper Countryman. In addition to being popular among owners, Consumer Reports also gave the Corsair a solid road test score, coupled with average predicted reliability and owner satisfaction scores. The consumer organization praised the Lincoln Corsair for its copious amounts of power, the availability of the plug-in hybrid Grand Touring model, its responsive handling, comfortable ride, and quiet cabin. It wasn’t as big a fan of the lack of front seat bottom support for longer drives, however, as well as the “unintuitive” gear selector, but did praise the crossover’s fit and finish inside the cabin.
  4. I think that the follow-up to the delivery holds is Ford learning about the quality control issues early, holding the vehicles for repair prior to the shipping release, and then updating the future build process to eliminate holds for the same issues. Holding the vehicles for repair prior to the shipping release should also reduce the expenses compared to issuing a delivery hold or TSB's and the related expenses should the repairs need to be performed at the dealership level.

  6. Simple. Ford is trying to address potential quality issues with additional inspections and/or repairs by doing a "Launch Hold" prior to vehicles being shipped to dealerships.
  7. Ford Order Link Crashes as EV Customers Rush to Get Free Tesla Charging Adapter https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2024/03/01/ford-website-free-adapter-tesla-ev-electric-vehicle/72801707007/ Zach Brandon kept clicking refresh on his computer, trying to place his order for a free device that will dramatically reduce his worries about finding a charging station to power up his all-electric 2023 Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition. A warning message on the Ford website repeatedly popped up on his screen early Thursday that said, "Due to surging demand, our site is temporarily unavailable. Please check back soon." "The initial influx ... briefly interrupted the ordering process and we were able to quickly address it with customer orders flowing across the day. The huge interest highlights the importance of improving access to public charging," Ford spokesman Marty Gunsberg told the Detroit Free Press on Friday. Ford on Thursday launched an order link online for its EV owners to order free adaptors that would allow them to charge their vehicles at the Tesla fast-charging network, in addition to finding random charging stations. Access to the Tesla network, known for its dependability and thousands of locations, has been touted by Ford CEO Jim Farley since he brokered the deal with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in May. “We think this is a huge move for our industry and for all electric customers,” Farley said at the time. On Thursday, he tweeted an image of himself charging a Mach-E at a Tesla site and said, "I've tested it myself and it works great. Making something this easy to use takes a lot of hard work behind the scenes, so congrats to the @Ford and @Tesla teams for making this happen. I would also like to thank @ElonMusk and the Tesla team for their close collaboration and leadership to help change the lives of so many EV customers through improved access to charging." Brandon, 50, of Madison, Wisconsin, told the Detroit Free Press on Thursday, "This is a game changer." After about two hours of trying to get into the Ford system, Brandon placed his order and received the email he wanted: "Your fast-charging adaptor is in production" with an estimated shipping date of June. Brandon, president of the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce, said the small device will give him the freedom to drive longer distances without worrying about charging deserts. He has owned his all-electric SUV about a month. "The opportunity to tap into additional charging infrastructure is exciting and, I think, validates why I bought a Ford EV," he said. "Now the Mach-E is my everyday driver and I don’t have to ask my wife if we can trade cars or plan out my day beyond the charging infrastructure." Concern about access to charging has been identified as a major obstacle to Americans buying electric vehicles. While people, including Brandon, begin their days with a full charge after plugging in their vehicles at home, and driving locally with little problem, longer trips require more planning. Or, as Brandon said, swapping cars with family members. He just sold his 2016 Mercedes E-400 and now his wife drives a 2017 Land Rover. "My Ford window sticker says 260-mile range fully charged," Brandon said. "But the reality is, I have been averaging around 220 with city driving. Cold weather is likely the main reason for the difference. There is only one gear so little fuel efficiency is found with highway driving. I actually see less range when I drive on the highway. So this is another reason why access to Tesla Supercharger network helps."
  8. 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Gets 84 Month Financing Rate Cut https://fordauthority.com/2024/03/2023-ford-mustang-mach-e-gets-84-month-financing-rate-cut/ With inventory levels remaining quite high even as we transition to the 2024 model year, The Blue Oval has taken quite a bit of action to move its remaining 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E crossovers off dealer lots in recent months. That includes rolling out significant price cuts for those models – with Job 1 builds proving to be the better bargain thanks to the fact that they have more standard equipment – making the EV eligible for X-Plan pricing, slashing the cost of demo models, and rolling out new Red Carpet Lease Deals, along with introducing a new incentive that makes leasing a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E just as cheap as a Tesla Model Y. Now, those eyeballing a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E can take advantage of yet another new offer, according to CarsDirect. This latest incentive comes in the form of an enticing 84-month financing rate, which can be as low as 1.9 percent currently, depending on one’s credit worthiness. It’s a sharp cut compared to the prior 84-month rate of 5.9 percent, and it means that one can potentially score a low monthly payment if they are able to combine the aforementioned deals, too. In fact, if one can find a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E base model – which costs $41,695 at the moment, following the prior price cuts – and finance it for 84 months at this low rate, it would result in a monthly payment of $530.50, with just $3,000 in interest charges over the life of the loan. Choosing a shorter term can result in even steeper savings for well-qualified customers, as 72-month financing terms are currently as low as zero percent, and that deal can be stacked with $3,000 in bonus cash as well, though it applies to higher-trim models. Either way, those that have been waiting for the right time to buy a Mach-E might have very well found it, if they can locate a suitable 2023 model that meets their needs, that is.

  13. Certain 2023 Mustang Mach-E Demo EVs Get Big Discount https://fordauthority.com/2024/02/certain-2023-ford-mustang-mach-e-demo-evs-get-big-discount/ Earlier this month, The Blue Oval announced that it was slashing 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E prices by a significant margin, a move that was made in part to help reduce inventory and make room for 2024 models while also positioning it to better compete with its chief rival, the Tesla Model Y. These price cuts don’t just make the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E a more enticing purchase, but also, some substantial cash offers also make it quite affordable to lease, though older models are a better deal thanks to the presence of more standard equipment, as Ford Authority recently reported. Now, 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E shoppers have yet another potential way to save on their purchase, according to CarsDirect. According to a recent dealer bulletin, select 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E models are now eligible for what the automaker calls “VIN Specific Bonus Cash,” which can result in a discount ranging anywhere from $3,100 all the way up to $18,500. However, this new incentive is focused on models that didn’t qualify for the aforementioned price cut, and more specifically, demo models from dealerships. “Impacted 2023 Mach-E units are FCTP (Ford Courtesy Transportation Program) Mannequin Units that were already in service and dealer traded units,” the memo reads. Otherwise, it’s a little difficult to determine which models – outside of “mannequins” or demo vehicles – may present the best possible deal. “The incentive amount varies by trim and order date,” the memo notes, but it doesn’t specify how that works. It stands to reason that higher-trim models may offer better discounts, as has historically been the case, but it’s unclear if that applies to this new offer. Regardless, those willing to do a little hunting could potentially wind up scoring one of the better discounts on the Mach-E we’ve seen to date.
  14. Ford EV Owners Can Now Order Free Tesla Charging Adapter https://fordauthority.com/2024/02/ford-ev-owners-can-now-order-free-tesla-charging-adapter/ In May of last year, The Blue Oval announced that it had reached a deal with Tesla that will provide the owners of Ford EV models with access to that company’s Supercharger network and later, the company also revealed that owners of the Ford F-150 Lightning and Ford Mustang Mach-E would be receiving an adapter designed to enable those models to utilize Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) chargers as well. The adapter will be provided for free for those Ford EV owners, and available via a reservation process. Ford CEO Jim Farley just revealed this new part in its entirety this week, and now, it is officially available to order, too. F-150 Lightning and Mach-E owners can head to this new site to order their NACS adapter, and it will be available to do precisely that now through June 30, 2024. It will enable them to utilize the Supercharger network before the owners of any other branded EV, in fact, but after the cutoff date, this part will be sold for a retail price of $230. As for Ford Pro commercial customers, they’ll be contacted this spring with instructions on how to order their own adapters, too. Those that take delivery of this new NACS adapter will also be able to utilize the FordPass app or via their vehicle’s infotainment screen to pay for Supercharger sessions after creating an account and activating the Plug & Charge feature. From there, all they have to do is simply pull in, plug up, and charge, though future Ford EV models will come with NACS ports from the factory, rather than CCS as is currently the case, meaning that they won’t need an adapter. “Starting today, Ford EV customers will have access to more than 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across the U.S. and Canada, more than doubling fast charging options on the BlueOval Charge Network,” said Ford CEO Jim Farley. “This move will improve the public charging experience by giving our customers even more choice and is a vital part of our growth as an EV brand. I would like to thank Elon and the Tesla team for their close collaboration and Tesla’s leadership to help change the lives of so many EV customers through improved access to charging.”

  16. 2024 Ford Bronco Pricing Adjusted for Manual and Automatic https://fordauthority.com/2024/02/2024-ford-bronco-pricing-adjusted-for-manual-and-automatic/ Now that supply of the sixth-generation Ford Bronco has finally, seemingly, caught up with demand – a few years after that model’s launch – we’re beginning to see The Blue Oval apply some incentives to the rugged SUV to make it a more enticing buy. That includes a special discount just for Jeep owners thinking about making the switch, a new stairstep program that rewards dealers for moving more models, and its first-ever lease deal, to boot. Now, in an interesting turn of events, 2024 Ford Bronco pricing has been adjusted not only down, but also up in certain cases, according to CarsDirect. According to a recent dealer bulletin, Ford took what it calls Mid-Year Pricing Actions earlier this week that actually increase the cost of models equipped with manual transmissions as standard by $500. However, the price of models that come with the 10-speed automatic gearbox have been reduced by $500, which is an interesting decision – one that fans of row-your-own gearboxes will obviously not be fans of. This change affects the 2024 Ford Bronco Big Bend, Black Diamond, Badlands, and Heritage Edition, all of which come with the seven-speed manual as standard equipment. If customers opt to stick with that gearbox, they’ll be paying $500 more than before, but if they opt for the automatic transmission, pricing actually remains the same as before, due to the aforementioned $500 reduction. This also means that the base trim level of the 2024 Ford Bronco – the Big Bend – will be more expensive than it was previously, which is notable given the fact that FoMoCo deleted the Base trim from its lineup a while back. This means that those looking to get behind the wheel of a new entry-level Bronco will pay more for that privilege, unless they opt for the automatic gearbox.
  17. 2024 Ford F-150 Pickups Begin Shipping Out from Michigan https://fordauthority.com/2024/02/2024-ford-f-150-pickups-begin-shipping-out-from-michigan/ Last week, Ford Authority reported that a number of 2024 Ford F-150 and Ford F-150 Lightning pickups were spotted at the automaker’s Dearborn test track, which was previously used to store incomplete pickups that were partially assembled and then stashed away as the automaker awaited parts that were difficult to come by due to various supply chain shortages. Shortly thereafter, we learned that those 2024 Ford F-150 pickups were awaiting quality checks – an important step as the automaker is targeting Toyota as a quality benchmark – while a stop-ship had been issued for the 2024 F-150 Lighting due to a problem with the EV variant’s headlights. Now, just a few days later, those same 2024 Ford F-150 pickups have begun shipping to dealers, according to the Detroit Free Press. “We started shipping new 2024 F-150s to dealers beginning last week,” Mike Levine, Ford North America product communications director, told the Free Press. “We will steadily increase shipments as we continue going through our quality checks to ensure they meet the quality our customers expect. We are shipping exactly when we said we would and feel good about getting these trucks to customers.” As Levine noted here, Ford originally stated that it would begin shipping the refreshed 2024 F-150 in early 2024, and now, that’s precisely the case – even after hundreds or perhaps thousands of units were stored following the start of production back in December. Levine also noted that building vehicles and then storing them before deliveries begin is part of the automaker’s new launch process. As for the 2024 F-150 Lightning, Ford hasn’t set a deadline for when it might lift that model’s stop-ship, but noted that this won’t happen until it’s confident that all potential quality issues have been resolved.
  18. Related to examples of management and union relations when I was the Business Agent for the IATSE Motion Picture Local #273 covering New Haven County in CT. For several years, I ran the two 1,000 seat theatres at the premiere Showcase Cinema location that often ran premiere screenings including the New England premiere of the original “Arthur” with Dudley Moore. The premiere was scheduled for a Saturday night with Showcase Cinemas executives, including then Chairman/CEO Sumner Redstone, and numerous Warner Brother executives coming in from Hollywood. As such, the theatre manager wanted me to run a test of the film Saturday morning, before the theatre started running its regular schedule and the theatre wouldn’t be available. We ran the screening test, and it looked great. Shortly afterwards, we got a call from Warner Brothers telling us that a replacement reel (20 Minutes) was being sent by courier from New York to replace the first 20 minutes. It was common for studios to run different versions in different regions to test audience reaction before locking in the version for wide release. I was in the projection booth, started the screening and found that the print was out of focus because the replacement footage had been rushed through the lab and hadn’t been cured making a sharp focus impossible. Sure enough, a Warner Brothers executive came into the projection booth, while I was with the Showcase Cinemas Vice President of Operations, who I knew well and knew my work, looking for a scapegoat related to the focus problem. I told the Warner Brothers executive what caused the problem (wet print) and that the studio was responsible. Sure enough, after the first 20 minutes had been screened, the focus was perfect for the rest of the film. The Warner Brothers executive was still not satisfied and still looking for a scapegoat. At that point, I informed the Warner Brothers executive that CT projectionists were licensed through the CT Department of Safety and had more authority than theatre management. I then informed him that only licensed personnel were allowed access to the projection booth and instructed him to leave. The Showcase Cinemas VP backed me up 100%.
  19. Ford Halted Shipments of 2024 F-150 Lightning Due to Headlight Issues https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2024/02/26/ford-2024-f150-lightning-headlight-electric-connection/72747145007/ Ford Motor Co. stopped delivery earlier this month of its 2024 F-150 Lightning pickups to address an issue that appears to be related to the headlights, the Detroit Free Press has learned "We're being told it's an electric connection with the headlights," Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting for AutoForecast Solutions of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, told the Free Press on Monday. "It's a new part for the 2024 model. The connector apparently can leak water and short out the lights. They'll flicker or turn off." He applauded Ford for deciding to stop shipments. "An important product like the F-Series needs to have all the quality issues addressed before trucks hit customer driveways. Making sure these issues are tackled first is good on Ford." Ford spokeswoman Emma Bergg told the Free Press that Ford stopped shipping the Lightning on Feb. 9 as part of quality control protocols, after beginning delivery in January on schedule. She declined to comment on the specific issue of concern. "We expect to ramp up shipments in the coming weeks as we complete thorough launch quality checks to ensure these new F-150s meet our high standards," Bergg said. "Quality is a massive priority, so we're not shipping vehicles to customers until the quality is right. We don't want trucks out there that are not up to our high standards." The 2024 Lightning, which is the bestselling electric truck in the U.S., was named the "Best Electric Truck" by Kelley Blue Book. "This is not a stop sale," Bergg said. "Stop ship is part of the built-in manufacturing process. It's all quality control." Ford said it cannot disclose when the vehicles will start shipping again. And the automaker doesn't want to forecast, as rushing to meet a stated deadline would be counterproductive, Bergg said. Ford dealers do have 2023 Lightning trucks on their lots for sale, she noted. CEO Jim Farley told industry analysts earlier this month that commitment to improving and protecting quality is among the company's top priorities.
