  1. We get them from Autozone. Look that frame over closely Had to put a rear frame in a much newer one recently.
  2. had a coil driver go out on wifes 08 Edge. Was possibly a warranty recall for it if under 70,000 mile. Yes it had under 70,000 miles. However it was going to cost me to have it towed to a good Ford dealer, then It was going to have to pay $100 diagnostic charge to find out if computer was bad. It was also going to be at least 2 weeks until they could look at it. One thing a man does not do is leave his wife without a set of wheels. It may not get driven for days at a time, but they want it available. 5 minutes and the computer was out, sent it off to a repair shop . Around $300 and a week later and it was back on the road. They repaired my computer so no programming necessary. Have their business card around somewhere. I think I posted a link to the repair shop on the group 'Auto Techs Online" Look for Ohio AutoTech postings.
  3. Stay away from bio-diesel. Read owners manual, several times. It will give the type of oil to use. If there is synthetic that meets the requirements then use it. My son switched over to Amsoil in his diesel tractor and was very pleased with it this winter- much easier starting. pay attention to emissions system and requirements. Be ready for higher maintainence costs for the diesel compared to gas.
  4. In a training session for the International 466E back in 1997 or so the instructor told us International was working them on a camless diesel. He also said to expect it within the next 5 to 10 years. Never happened. Perhaps the technology is much better 20 years later? After all it is an intriguing idea and concept. There are some videos on You Tube about camless engines
  5. Used car buyers indirectly have influence . Once a new car comes off lease or is traded in the dealer has to sell it again. If the vehicle is a slow seller used, its price goes down until it is sold.Lower resale values result and this drives up the new car depreciation percentages. Some people use depreciation as a factor when purchasing a new vehicle. on the flip side, high used car prices can convince a used car buyer to purchase new . For example, why buy a used Lincoln when one can buy a comparably equipped new Ford for the same money and get the new car warranty. My nephew has a used car lot. Average lot time for an Edge is 2 weeks at most, the same year Lincoln sat there for 2 monthes.
  6. They have missed the mark then as this vehicle does not appeal to me a 60 something Baby Boomer. Course, maybe being 60+ is not really old. Unsure of the price as I did not bother looking at the window sticker on the one at local dealer. Vehicle looks worse in person. But I figure a Taurus or Flex would serve someone from the boomer years better. My personal vehicle is an 09 Flex.
  7. Yeah, they do not call them "Brown Turds" for nothing. Worst color of vehicle to sell. Lots and lots of brown cars and trucks go through the auction.
  8. It is all in the perception. Is widely known that Lincolns are just rebadged Fords. That is the reason Mercury was discontinued, same as a Ford, just more money resulted in a slow seller. Sure the Lincoln version of a Ford may have a lot more bells and whistles, more doo-dads and gee-gaws, but it is still a Ford. You pay more for the Lincoln, but 5 years down the road you get a very small fraction of that extra money back in vehicle value. An example of value retention is the Eddie Baur package- Cost $5000 to get it on a Ford Expedition, yet when 5 years old it only added $500 to the value. There may or may not be more of something in a Lincoln over a Ford, but when the products look so much alike with a huge price disparity not many people go any further for the Lincoln. And why give the Continental the same / similar taillights as the MKZ? Someone comes up behind it and it does not stand out as being a "different" Lincoln.
  9. Ford version is Fusion, Fusion gets a different grille and it is called Lincoln MKZ. New Continental looks like a slightly enlarged MKZ. Nothing exciting to me about it.
  10. Parts finally available in my area. Wife's Edge got a new fuel tank week between Christmas and New Years.
  11. "New" Lincoln Continental http://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/detroit/2017-lincoln-continentals-detroit-debut-marks-new-chapter-for-the-brand/ar-CCrjyh?li=BBnb4R5 Fail. Looks too much like the Lincolnized Ford Fusion.
  12. Actually own both at the moment. Will be 4 years this week I have had my 2009 Flex SEL AWD. Was 2 years in September I bought a 2008 Edge SEL AWD for the wife. If I could have found a FLex for as good a deal as I got on mine the wife would be driving a Flex also. My preference is for the Flex, being 400 to 600 pounds heavier it handles a tad better. It has the heated seats - great for my back, I like the flat hood out in front of me. It has the HID headlights which are way superior to the Edge standard headlights. The windshield has more rake on the Edge, this causes a glare of the dash on the windshield in sunshine. Also on the Edge the chrome around the AC dash outlets and trim above the radio reflect the sun into my eyes. The seat cushion is shorter in the Edge, so I do not have full leg support like in the Flex. The Edge seems snappier which I attribute to the lighter weight and it only has 70,000 miles on it where the Flex has 85,000 miles. Fuel mileage is about same on both. Surprisingly the Flex gets better fuel mileage than my 01 AWD v6 Escape. Interestingly at 5'11" i have to put the Edge seat almost all the way back to drive, so if one is over 6', choose the Flex.
  13. Yes, I drove rear drivers and got around in worse snow here in Ohio than we have now. Absolutely hate front drivers in snow and ice. As a result, everything we have is AWD/4X4. Edge fits all drivers, men, women, single family. Very good compromise
  14. That Escape has another 160,000 miles left in it. Not much goes wrong with them. Brake flex hoses, lower ball joints , tone rings for ABS on front axles. Rest is normal maintainence. Well lower ball joints are a wear item like brakes.
  15. 15.6 @ $40 = $624 15.6@ $50 = $780 Independent garages. Dealer is $65 or so ( the last timeI was in one ). One independent has a guy they charge less than $40 for, but he would not be doing engine swaps, he does light , easy. unskilled jobs, Even at $50 an hour and the most expensive used engine they would still get by for around $2000. A dealer however may not want to mess with installing a used engine because of warranty issues. A factory reman caries a warrranty for Ford, the used engine is just a warranty from the salvage yard.
