  1. New 1.5L 3-cylinder EcoBoost with cylinder deactivation is the big news. Wonder what else this engine will show up in.
  2. Ford posted to Facebook that they have an all-new vehicle announcement coming up tomorrow. Picture looks like a truck, Expedition maybe? Streamed live at 9:55am.
  3. Why is Louisville getting $700 million to build the next-gen escape? They spent only $600 million on the renovation that converted a BOF plant to a Unibody plant to build the current Escape.

  5. BRIDGEND, Wales – Ford has approved an investment of £181 million at its Bridgend Engine Plant in South Wales to produce a family of all-new, technologically-advanced, fuel-efficient petrol engines. The investment includes Welsh Government support of £14.67 million, with production planned to start in late 2018. The Ford announcement was welcomed by Welsh Economy Minister Edwina Hart: “Ford is a Welsh Anchor Company and the Bridgend Engine Plant plays a key role in the economy of South Wales. In a climate of stiff global competitiveness, we have been actively seeking to win a share of this investment for Wales and so we are delighted with today’s announcement. “Ford’s decision to manufacture its new innovative engine here in Wales is a tribute to the reputation of the local management team and the quality and loyalty of the Welsh workforce and will safeguard more than 750 skilled Welsh jobs for many years.” Teams from the Ford Dunton Technical Centre in Essex, as well as Ford’s Technical Centre in Merkenich Germany, and the Ford Research and Innovation Centre in Aachen, Germany, have worked together on the design and development of the all-new engine family. Earlier this year, Ford built its 5 millionth vehicle worldwide equipped with a fuel-efficient EcoBoost petrol engine, and in Europe more than one-in-four of all Ford vehicles sold are fitted with an EcoBoost engine. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine – winner of the International Engine of the Year for an unprecedented three years in succession – is the most popular EcoBoost version in Europe, with one-in-five vehicles sold in the region being equipped with the engine. http://www.at.ford.com/news/cn/Pages/Ford%20Approves%20New%20Family%20of%20Low-Emission%20Petrol%20Engines%20for%20Its%20Bridgend%20Engine%20Plant%20in%20South%20Wales.aspx Maybe an all-new small 4-cylinder ecoboost engine family to replace the Sigma?
  6. DEARBORN — Media are reporting that VW outfitted its diesel-powered cars with software that would employ measures to reduce emissions when tested. Reports also indicate that this type of “defeat device” was engaged during the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency emission testing of VW diesel-powered vehicles. Official investigations into the matter are ongoing. Below is a brief Ford Q&A as well as a number of VW-related articles from outside media on this issue. Ford Q&A: Does Ford have any vulnerability similar to VW’s emissions issues? No. Our vehicles and engines meet all applicable emissions standards, and they are designed to preform consistently both in the lab and on the road. Does Ford have “defeat devices” in any vehicles? No. Is Ford worried about its own vehicle emissions transparency? No. We have designed emissions control systems that perform consistently both in the lab and on the road. In which vehicles does Ford offer diesel powertrains in the U.S.? Ford diesel offerings in the U.S. are limited to heavy-duty vehicles: The Transit 3.2-liter Power Stroke and F-Series Super Duty F250-450 pickup trucks and F-350-750 chassis cab products equipped with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke. http://www.at.ford.com/news/cn/Pages/VWDefeatDevice.aspx

Additional Information for Dealers The Ford GT customer application process will begin in early 2016. Details on the application process will be provided closer to the application process start date. 8. Remember when i found the new Edge that ford accidentally put in a conference slide for investors before it was shown to the public? Have a look on page 9 of this new slide. Looks like a new front end for the Fusion. http://corporate.ford.com/content/dam/corporate/en/investors/investor-events/Conferences/2015/jp-morgan-conference-presentation-slides-20150812.pdf
  9. So the Reuters sources were wrong. There won't be 2 new diesel engines. Just increased output of the existing 2. Keep dreaming Diesel fans.
  10. Chihuahua currently builds 2.0 and 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engines. They didn't start building the 6.7 and 4.4 diesels until 2010. I don't think they are going to need 4000 new workers for diesel engines. The 1.5 ecoboost is a high volume engine. Maybe they will be new diesel engines in addition to it, but diesel engines alone don't sale enough to warrant this big of an expansion.
  11. According to this article they are going to build Ford's 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost gasoline engine in North America for the first time. They don't mention any new Diesel engines. I guess we will find out when they announce on Friday. http://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2015/04/14/ford-investment-mexico-engine-transmission-plant/25771619/
  12. I would like to point out that the mythical CD6 platform was originated by TTAC who said their sources was the same that scuttled rumors of a revived GT. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/201...rwd-crossover/
  13. INDIANAPOLIS -- Carl Edwards' 11-year run with Roush-Fenway Racing will end after this NASCAR season. The confirmation by Roush officials Sunday that Edwards will not be back in the No. 99 Ford had been long rumored but not substantiated because Edwards refuses to publicly discuss contract negotiations. He's believed to be headed to Joe Gibbs Racing in a new fourth car, but his contract with Roush does not permit him to announce his plans until September. Read More It's a good thing Ford got Penske, Roush is falling apart. Biffle, Stenhouse Jr, Bayne are mediocre drivers at best.
  14. If you read the press release from Ford, it says the engine will produce an estimated 245hp/270lb and AWD will be optional. https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2014/06/24/all-new-2015-edge-showcases-fords-best-technology--more-driver-a.html
  15. Maybe Farley was misquoted. "Ford has no plans to build the crossover in China, Farley said." http://www.freep.com/article/20140624/BUSINESS0102/306240165/2015-Ford-Edge-auto
  16. No hybrids or diesel in US. Only 50 pounds lighter. No plans to produce in China.
  17. Lincoln is taking the path less traveled as it attempts to revitalize its product portfolio. Unlike key rivals, the brand has no plans to field a flagship sedan or an entry in the increasingly popular entry-luxury sedan segment. To avoid stealing sales from Ford, Lincoln will refrain from offering a sub-$30,000 model to take on the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and Audi A3, Matt VanDyke, global head of marketing, sales and service for Lincoln, revealed to Edmunds. "We have to go up," VanDyke said. "We have a Ford brand that has phenomenal products in the $20,000-$30,000 range. Our goal shouldn't be to go down below $30,000 and compete with them. Our goal and transformation needs to be to really entrench ourselves as a true luxury competitor in the higher price points." Despite the need to move upmarket, Lincoln will not build a full-size flagship sedan modeled after the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. "I think the definition [of flagship] is kind of changing," VanDyke commented. "So I don't think it is as easy today to say that a flagship is a [big] sedan, costing $100,000 that sets the tone for the rest of the product line. It is not as simple as it maybe was a decade or two ago." In a break from tradition, Lincoln's future flagship may not be its most expensive or largest model. The company points to Land Rover's small, style-focused Range Rover Evoque crossover as an example of the type of image-boosting vehicle it would like to launch. "One of the things we pay close attention to is what Land Rover has achieved with the Evoque," VanDyke said. "People are surprised to see the kind of statement that makes for the brand." VanDyke declined to divulge whether Lincoln's future flagship will take the form of a sedan or a crossover. Read more: http://www.leftlanenews.com/lincoln-...#ixzz356pGXjG1
  18. This is a replacement for both the European and South American Ka. Martin Smith said last year the European KA will be axed because it doesn't make profit and isn't a global car. LINK It will probably be made in Brazil, China, and India where it will be imported to Europe like the Ecosport is.

  21. 1,400 New Ford Employees Kick Off U.S. Production of Fusion to Meet Surging Customer Demand With 1,400 new jobs and a $555 million investment, Flat Rock Assembly Plant begins Ford Fusion production Production added to improve tight availability of Ford Fusion; U.S. Fusion sales up 13 percent this year Ford will hire almost 6,500 workers in the U.S. this year to support new products, growth and investment; company has added more than three-quarters of the 12,000 hourly jobs it committed to add in the U.S. by 2015 Supported by 1,400 new employees, the new Ford Fusion will roll off the line at Flat Rock Assembly Plant today, marking the first time the popular car has been built in the United States. The move expands Fusion availability by more than 30 percent – up to 350,000 units annually – as the midsize sedan is setting sales records for Ford. “With its bold design and great fuel economy, Fusion has exceeded all of our expectations, with demand outstripping supply,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of The Americas. “Fusion in Flat Rock is a win for all of our stakeholders – including customers, employees and dealers. At the same time, Ford is continuing its massive investment in America by creating another 1,400 jobs.” The 1,400 new employees Ford hired to support added production at Flat Rock Assembly Plant puts the company more than 75 percent of the way toward its goal of creating 12,000 hourly jobs in the United States by 2015. In 2013 alone, Ford is hiring nearly 6,500 new hourly and salaried employees in the U.S. to support products, growth and investment. Strong Fusion sales Fusion sales – up 13 percent in the U.S. this year – remain very strong. Through July, Ford sold more than 181,000 Fusions, 21,000 more than were sold in the same period last year. Fusion vehicles are selling in fewer than 20 days in such key markets as San Francisco, Los Angeles and Miami, compared with the industry average of approximately 60 days. The high-end Fusion Titanium is turning even faster in these markets – fewer than 15 days on dealer lots. Demand for Fusion is growing as the sedan continues to win over buyers from other automakers, particularly Asian manufacturers, with a competitive conquest rate of 50 percent. Fusion has earned accolades from customers and influential publications, winning seven major awards in its first nine months of production. Featuring a sleek silhouette and fresh face, the new Fusion is the latest in a series of vehicles from Ford – following the 2011 Fiesta subcompact and 2012 Focus small car – developed to serve customers who want leading fuel efficiency, smart technologies and game-changing design. Fusion is the first sedan to offer gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, underscoring Ford’s commitment to give customers the power of choice. Fusion Hybrid is EPA-certified with a best-in-class 47 mpg city, 47 mpg highway and 47 mpg combined fuel economy rating. Customers can choose from Fusion’s widest-ever portfolio of fuel-efficient powertrains, including EcoBoost®gasoline-powered, hybrid and plug-in hybrid, automatic and manual transmission offerings and Auto Start-Stop technology. With seven must-have technologies – including a Lane-Keeping System, adaptive cruise control, active park assist and MyFord Touch® – Fusion demonstrates Ford’s commitment to deliver features customers truly want and value in their vehicles. Flat Rock transformation “We are thrilled to have added production of Fusion at Flat Rock Assembly Plant – not just for our dedicated workforce here, but for the entire metro Detroit community and the associated jobs it will create,” said UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles. “Together with the domestic automakers and through the collective bargaining process, we are able to bring jobs to the U.S. that were previously located offshore. Fusion production in Flat Rock is a key part of that.” To prepare Flat Rock’s newest hires to build Fusion, a simulated factory has been introduced to provide hands-on training in a real-world environment. The simulated factory allows workers to master the tasks they may be performing on the line. It also is expected to help reduce employee attrition and improve overall manufacturing and safety. As part of a $555 million investment, Flat Rock Assembly Plant has added a state-of-the-art, fully flexible body shop to allow multiple models to be produced on the same assembly line, supporting Ford’s flexible manufacturing efforts. “We have completely transformed Flat Rock Assembly Plant to help prepare for Fusion production. These upgrades have allowed us to ensure we are building the highest-quality cars,” said Tim Young, plant manager, Flat Rock Assembly Plant. Ford also has upgraded the plant’s paint shop with installation of its three-wet paint process. It is more environmentally friendly and takes less time than conventional paint processes, without compromising vehicle paint quality or durability. Other technologies incorporated at Flat Rock include laser brazing, a form of welding that will be used on Fusion to attach the roof of the car to the body with a high-quality, aesthetically pleasing seam. In 2014, dirt detection technology will be introduced at Flat Rock to ensure optimal paint and surface quality, leading to smoother, shinier cars. Flat Rock Assembly Plant also produces the iconic Ford Mustang, now in its 50th year. The plant recently celebrated the 1 millionth Mustang built at the facility. With the addition of Fusion production, Flat Rock Assembly Plant will have approximately 3,000 employees working two shifts at full line speed. The Flat Rock factory has been producing vehicles since 1987, when it opened as Mazda Motor Manufacturing USA and built the Mazda MX-6. Ford purchased a 50 percent share in the facility in 1992, and it was renamed AutoAlliance International. During the years, the plant has produced the Mazda 626, Mazda6, Mercury Cougar and Ford Probe. Fusion also is produced at Hermosillo Assembly Plant in Mexico. Chongqing Assembly Plant 1 in China also builds the car, which is known as the Ford Mondeo in other markets globally.
