  1. Problem solved! Akirby was right in his first response. When I took the car in for the latest recall, I mentioned the radio not turning off. Just picked the car up and it turns out this issue was covered by TSB 121108 - reprogram the FCDIM. The only thing visible to me after this software update is that there is now an instantaneous readout of fuel consumption available on instrument panel display.
  2. Thanks Transitman, good advice on the battery lead. I will go out and pull that fuse when it stops raining around here, mid-week according to the weatherman.
  3. Thanks for the input guys, I will probably disconnect the negative battery lead when the problem becomes more pronounced. I am a bit confused by the term "Master Reset" in the context of the options on my vehicle. I am presuming that disconnecting the battery or pulling the fuse will reset the all the computer driven systems including the radio and sync. As far as determining what version of software I have, I don't have a clue. I have tried to find a reference to updating or checking the software version on the Service Information CD, but, have not seen it yet. I am cool so far, but, can see the day when this may get frustrating
  4. Lately, the radio in my 2013 1.6L SE does not turn off when I open the door. This happens intermitently, maybe one in ten times. I have left it on and it does not turn off after the other lights go off. The car does not have the Ford My Touch option. Has anyone else had this happen, is there a solution out there? It does seem like a software issue, but, who knows.
  5. I have not done this job, others on the forum have and I hope they respond, Based on the directions in the Ford Service Information CD, this procedure looks correct. The main point that I saw was that it does not appear to be necessary to disconnect the electrics which was of some concern to me. The video make it look a little less difficult than I thought based on some comments made in the earlier thread. I book marked the site, thanks for posting it.
  6. I had both rear shocks replaced two weeks ago. The clunk and creaking noise from the right rear is as bad or worse than before the TSB was carried out. There is no doubt that extreme cold brings out the problem in spades. It sure sounds like a bad shock to me, but it could be something else. I am getting tired of leaving this car at the dealer for TSBs and recalls. They never seem to have the parts in stock and usually want the car over night. While they are happy to offer a free loaner it is all becoming a PIA.
  7. ffdemoss and Dave H: Thanks for the heads up on the TSB. It is because of guys like you that I follow this forum. Now I should stop this off-topic discussion
  8. Approaching 20,000 kms and no rattles or annoying buzzes from the dash or other parts of the interior. BUT, I do have a load clunk coming from the right rear when hitting medium to larger bumps that almost sounds like a broken shock.
  9. Thanks for the comments Bolt. We actually rented a Focus wagon our last time cycling in Italy in 2007. It worked out very well, but, with the newer generation Focus I am not so sure it would work again. It seems very difficult to find interior cargo space dimensions on the internet. I think I will visit the dealers with my tape measure!
  10. Good idea MKII, but, it would blow the budget, $145 per day versus $55 per day!
  11. I am looking at rental vehicles out of Rome for an Italian cycling holiday next May. I see the Kuga is available (manual;yeah!). However, we need to fit 3 people, 3 bikes in bags or boxes and 3 small duffel bags. Has anyone on the forum tried to do this? I am assuming that the interior dimensions of the Kuga will not be different than my 2013 Escape, so your experience with the Escape should be useful. I know, I could gather all this stuff together and try it in my car, but, it will not be convenient to do it for quite some time.
  12. Tazzel, I have exactly the same issue except on the passenger side. It was like that on delivery, but, we did not notice it right away. I had intended to have the dealer fix it on the first sevice visit. The thought that they would do more harm than good had crossed my mind. I wonder if there is a fix we could do ourselves.
