  1. Perhaps there is an easier (intended) way to do this or maybe I've exploited a bug in Sync. I have a work phone (iPhone 4) and a personal phone (Galaxy Nexus). I wanted to connect the iPhone via BT to handle phone calls but still be able to stream BT audio from my Gnex at the same time. I kind of stumbled upon this by accident. (the iPhone is my preferred device in the MFT BT connection settings so it always pairs automatically when I start the car) 1. After iPhone pairs automatically, I go into BT connection settings in MFT and pair my Gnex instead. 2. Now that the Gnex is paired, I can select BT Audio and start streaming my content 3. Turn vehicle off and open door to turn off radio 4. Close door and restart vehicle - iPhone automatically pairs for phone calls and the Gnex remains connected via BT for audio streaming Calls to/from my iPhone will interrupt the Gnex BT audio and Sync kicks in to handle the call. Upon disconnecting the call the BT streaming audio from my Gnex resumes and the iPhone stays paired as well. If there is built in functionality to do this, I'd be glad to hear how it's done. My way seems kind of kludgy. Without doing it this way, BT audio always insists on trying to stream from the iPhone.
  2. Ugh. Thanks guys, that's what I thought. Guess I'll just live with it. We have almost 50k miles on the car in 13 months. Yeah, it gets driven. I may need to consider an ESP for the powertrain stuff before we hit 60k.
  3. My 1.6L also pops at start-up. However, I'm out of the bumper-to-bumper warranty and the powertrain warranty language doesn't mention the exhaust past the manifold. Just because there is a TSB doesn't mean it's a free fix, correct?
  4. I'm in southern Virginia. I used to live in NoVA though and bought my first new vehicle (a 1991 Ranger) from Ted Britt Ford in Fairfax. Fortunately, there is a very good Ford dealer 1/2 mile from my office. Unfortunately, due to logistics, I had to use the dealer close to my home. I'm not formally accusing the dealership of malfeasance, but at the very best, they didn't complete all the work enumerated on the invoice. I suppose it is possible they just reinstalled the 3.5 update. 3.6 had been released just the day before, IIRC.
  5. Dealer replaced the front strut bearings on both sides. It's hard to tell if it actually fixed the problem since, for some unknown reason, the front end quit clunking about a month ago. It had clunked pretty much since new. But, I figured I had better do something since the bumper-to-bumper warranty was less than 1k miles from expiring. Dealer also replaced the blower fan speed controller to correct the surging A/C. That repair most certainly did not correct the issue. The blower still surges randomly. I'm interested to know if anyone else is experiencing the problem. The work order says Sync was updated to 3.6 and the APIM re-flashed. However, when I check the version through the MFT settings, it indicates that I'm still on the previous version. This doesn't give me a lot of faith in the dealer's service department. It makes me wonder if they actually did *any* of the work (especially since the A/C problem persists) and simply billed Ford fraudulently. I may take it to another dealer tomorrow. I've got about 300 miles of warranty left, lol.
  6. Our 2013 Escape SE 1.6L just clicked over 35k miles. I figured I had better get the thing to the dealer before the bumper-to-bumper expired. Service being performed: Front end clunking - dealership is replacing parts per the latest front end clunking TSB A/C - blower was surging at idle, dealership replacing blower motor They are updating to MFT 3.6 while it's there. Out of curiousity, has anyone else experienced the surging blower motor? I couldn't find any TSBs relating to the issue so it may be an isolated problem. I'm concerned with potential rattles in the dash after the work is performed but I'd much rather have it replaced under warranty than risk having it fail out of warranty. I can't imagine it is a cheap labor bill to pull the dash apart which I'm assuming is necessary to replace the blower motor.
  7. I just received a coupon from my local dealer offering The Works for $29.95. Good deal as it is just about time again.
  8. In an interesting turn of events my Escape, which had been exhibiting front end noise/clunking since almost new in 9/2012, has stopped making the noises altogether as of a couple of weeks ago. I had scheduled service at the dealership last month but competing priorities caused me to cancel the service appointment. I had intentions of re-scheduling but the damn thing won't clunk now, at all. I'm actually hoping it starts up again since I'm 4k miles away from the expiration of the bumper-to-bumper warranty. Has anyone else experienced the clunking just going away?
  9. No noises from mine... so far. Currently sitting at 27k miles.
  10. My Escape is at the dealer as I type this getting its fourth "The Works". Total every time as been $41 and change. The price is fairly competitive for a synthetic blend oil change and even if it's a few bucks more, the tire rotation is worth it to me. I hate rotating tires myself. I always put a small mark on one of the tires with a Sharpie beforehand just to make sure they actually rotated them, lol. I'll continue to do "The Works" while this car is under warranty. Whether it makes any difference or not, I like having my oil changes on record with Ford.
  11. Keep us updated. My 25k mile SE has been clunking for awhile now. I just haven't had time to leave it with the dealer. Guess I need to do it soon before the bumper-to-bumper runs out on me.
  12. I'll be taking my 1.6L Escape SE in for some service next week. FWIW, the vehicle has 23k miles on it - bought it new 9/14/2012. I'm hoping most of the non-drivetrain related failures are going to occur in the next 13k miles. I'll be out of bumper-to-bumper warranty by August at this rate. I'm seriously considering buying an extended warranty now. Current issues: - Lots of noise from the front end, I'm assuming suspension, maybe motor mount. Sounds like a strut issue. Progressively getting worse. - Plastic interior lift gate "shell" is separating from the lift gate near the interior handle used to close the lift gate - Staining on passenger side A-pillar material, I assume from water intrusion. (car has glass roof and roof rails) - Intermittent brake noise - DTE issue I'm reasonably satisfied with the vehicle. Fortunately, I've had zero problems with MFT (running 3.5.1). The DTE issue is a mildly annoying but I've learned to live with it. Now that the car is fully broken in, my gas mileage has increased considerably. During the first few months of ownership, I averaged about 27mpg. In the last 2000 miles or so I've been seeing 30.x regularly. I am mildly skeptical regarding the long term reliability though.
  13. I've been meaning to get some quotes on having the front of our Escape done with "Clear Bra". Looks like a viable solution. http://www.motortrend.com/womt/112_0401_clear_bra/viewall.html
  14. I've read some pretty mixed reviews of the stock tires on our '13 Escapes. Most complaints are about cupping and poor tread life. My SE sits on the optional 18" polished aluminum wheels and the 235/50-18 ContiProContact tires. Tread depth in December at ~9k miles was 9/32". Tread depth measured today at ~17k miles is 8/32". Tires were rotated after the first tread depth measurement and rotated again today. Is this fairly consistent with what other folks are seeing with the ContiPros?
  15. I just started noticing a faint "grinding" noise from the rear brakes when cold. More noticeable when I first back out of the garage in the morning. I know the pads can't be toast after 14k miles. Both my wife and I drive this thing very gently. I'm going to pull a wheel of tomorrow and see what is going on.
