  1. I utterly fear what the bathrooms at CAP must look/smell like. It's terrifying on a visceral level that's almost unexplainable.
  2. Wait, why exactly was this person severly beaten?! Was it as simple as some type of argument that got of hand or somwething a little more complicated? Either way, the incident sounds pretty crazy. Not quite as bad as the incident at Chrysler not too long back, but definitely pretty bad sounding. Then again, I was once told by a few old timers back when I first started in 2007 that the Union used to deal with problems by taking a guy (or guys) out back and beating on him/them a little. :-) Sounds like Chicago is a total mess. No wonder there are rumors of CAP losing the Tuarus to FRAP.
  3. MAP did bring in a lot of people throughout February and March of this year ( most were temps either from MAP or elsewhere with a small group actually being hired in full time right off the street) However they still have quite a few tmpesin the plant who, from what I guess they're being told aren't expected to be converted to permanent anytime soon. At least not at MAP. Maybe at FRAP if they end up getting laid off and sent there. Who knows though. Most don't have any clue as to what the company plans on doing with them. As is usually the case they can't seem to get a straight answer from the Union, and when they do manage to get answers they are usually conflicting.
  4. Unfortunately, even if you could get your family member in , they'd more than likely come in as an LTS with zero guarantee of a full-time permament position being offered to them anytime in the near future. Ford already hired in most of their existing temps (at DTP,MAP, and various other locations like Sterling Axl. In fact, Sterling recently offered some of their temps permament full-time positions) and have now brought in a bunch of new off the street temps. So your family member would probably be pretty low on the list even if you could get them a referral. The folks who got hired in full time at MAP off the street from Michiagn Works were, from what I understand, pretty damn lucky as that sort of thing happens very, very rarely. Almost like winning the lottery as one Union official told me not too long ago. As of right now Ithink FRAPwould be your family members best bet, even though it won't be until sometime next year. Even if it is only as an LTS, at least they would have their "foot in the door". Anyway, good luck in your search.
  5. I currently work at MAP, but am considering going back to FRAP (where I originally hired in ) when the 2nd shift gets up and running next year. I inquired about future postings for FRAP at my local and they actually told me that they wouldn't put up any postings at MAP because we currently have 'good product'. Does anybody else find that ridiculous? Or is it just me? I currently drive about 30 minutes to work and with gas prices being the way they are would love to go back to FRAP where my drive time would be cut in half. Do they have the right to refuse to put up postings and deny me my right to a transfer to another plant?
  6. I've said it before and I'll say it again, not only do I think Bob King is a b*tch, but I also think he is a weak leader. I have almost zero faith in the man because as far as I'm concerned, he lacks the backbone to really get in the company's face. Instead he wants to be friends and an attitude like that does nothing for the membership and instead benefits the company.
  7. I always love hearing about temps being made permanent full-time employees. Every new full-timer helps us existing Tier 2 employees move closer and closer to being bumped to the tradition wage with the 80/20 cap. Now all we need is for all the people with 30 + years to finally retire and some of us Tier 2 employees can get the bump to traditional.
  8. What you mean is that "you hope the Tuarus isnt leaving Chicago". You don't know for sure what the company is going to do. It's entirely possible that the Tuarus gets moved to FRAP. I can understand why current CAP employees would be eager to shoot down such rumors as they don't want to lose any product, but no one knows for sure what is going to happen. Rumors are rumors and IMO, anything is possible.
  9. For the sake of all the LTS temps waiting to get hired in full-time, I hope FRAP goes the 3 shift route and as a result creates a bunch of new jobs. Selfishly however I'd rather they stay at 2 shifts simply for the fact that with that set-up Overtime would be easier to come by then if the plant was running 3 shifts. Although I'm not currently at FRAP, I will likely be trying to transfer back there once the 2nd shift is back up and running some time next year.
  10. This is so true. Local 900 basically did the opposite of what the company said it would do when hiring. They hired in all their buddies and local membership first before going outside the plant even though that meant most of the people hired in full time first actually had less time with the company than most of the people they hired in from outside plants afterwards. There is nothing anybody can do about it now. It is what it is and the truth is, at least most of us ended up with permament jobs even though those full-time jobs ended up not being quite as good as we all expected them to be. We just gotta deal with all the crap and maybe eventually we'll end up where we want to be.
  11. I don't know your situation, but MAP ended up hring two groups off the street full time after thyey finished hiring people already in the system. Granted, MAP didn't exactly hire by time with the company, instead the Local took care of their people first (which were mostly temps hired in in 11) before hring in temps from other plants. If you have indeed been a temp since 07 and they passed you over to hire people full time off the street then you have a legit grievance. I'd be mad as Hell. From what I understand, the temps we currently have will be getting laid off soon and probably sent to FRAP for training, and when that happens MAP will have to bring in new temps as I don't think we'd have enough people to run without most of the temps we have now. Sounds like you got a raw deal, but like I said, I don't know your situation, maybe you weren't called back for a reason. Is it possible your name was removed from the list due to a "turn down"?
  12. I should point out that we all got our 90 days in before the 07 contract as well. However we were all forced to sign 89 day waivers so there was no threat of us accidently working past that mark as we were filling open jobs from all the people leaving to go back to their home plants at the time.
  13. They did the same thing to all of us here in Michigan who originally got brought into Auto Alliance in 06 and 07 (and to other temps who had been with Ford since the early 2000's from various plants throughout Michigan, they were the people who really got screwed if you ask me) under the 03 contract. It's crappy for sure, but there is nothing you can do about it. People have looked into it here and there ain't a chance in Hell that the company is going to do the right thing and grandfather you guys in at the traditional rate, they won't even recognize your seniority (they will give you your vested time however...big deal right?). Hell, with us they didn't even hire by time with the company, as several hundred got hired in before many of us who didn't start as temps until 2011. The locals take care of their people first regardless of what the company said they would do. It's sad, butthe iUAW is a pale shadow of it's former self. The sooner you come to terms with that fact the sooner you can move on with your career at Ford Motor Company.
  14. I bet you a lot of those people will come in as temps. FRAP will perobably run with more people than they actually need to help with the start up of the 2nd shift and then once things kind of settle down all those extra temps will be laid off or sent elsewhere.
  15. Apparently FRAP will be adding 1200 new jobs, which means that they might hire in 200 new people (that might actually be optimistic, I don't know). Before they can actually hire anybody Ford will need to fill those 1200 openings with people who had recall rights, were on layoff, and people transferring from other plants. After all the full-time workers have been placed the next in line will be any temps in the system. MAP has probably a couple hundred that are gonna need some place to go once they get laid off and I'm sure DTP has their fair share of temps as well (not to mention temps at various other plants throughout Michigan). Finally, after all those people have been given a crack at FRAP, Ford will bring in brand new people. This "off the street" thing through Michigan Works is a first. I've never met anyone, up until this past year that got hired into Ford without knowing someone in the plant who could get them an application/referral. It's how I got in. I'd make sure to have your resume up-to date just incase Ford does use Michigan Works. However, if Ford goes the old school route, then you better start calling in favors from anybody you might know within Local 6000 to see if they can get you a referral. You've got to pay attention to the language. When it says 1200 new jobs, it doesn't mean 1200 new hires. Honestly, I'd say the chance of you getting hired in off the street are very, very slim considering the number of LTS' theyve added to the system this past year. I'm sure they've got enough temps in the system as of right now to probably fill like 500 of those openings. The new hires at MAP that got hired in off the street this past spring don't realize just how lucky they were. It's like they won the lottery and they don't even know it.
