  1. Hi, A very good place for camping would be Lakeport State Park. It is just north of Port Huron right off of Mi. 25. If I remember correctly there are even a decent number of pull through sites available. It is right on Lake Huron with a good beach and lots to do right in the park itself. Its location also allows you to backtrack to places like Detroit without heavy duty travelling. I have always found this campground to be very handy to a lot of the places we wanted to go. I hope this helps, Morry
  2. Hi there, Currently the car has just under 8000 Kilometers on it. I purchased it last November and I have been giving a full report on its mileage there ever since. I am doing this in the Ecoboost sub forum and the original post is titled "Fusion Ecoboost Fuel Mileage". There is no point in repeating anything here, and my last post gives full observations on my latest tank of fuel. And yes it I very impressive that this large a car can do as well as it is. I had a 2009 Fusion SEL before this one and I was always quite impressed with the fuel mileage accuracy of its computer. This one seems to be doing just as well. Morry
  3. Hi, Over on the Fusion forum I have been taking part in a thread about the mileage of the 1.5 Ecoboost and I am quite pleased with how well my 2016 has been doing. My car has had no trouble matching and even doing better than the EPA stats. Morry
  4. Unfortunately everything you are saying about FCA in these posts is all true. Like many here I also used Chrysler as my "backup" brand and on occasion have recommended their vehicles to friends when it seemed appropriate. However, being in Canada I was more worried than most of you here (probably) because in Canada we had felt Fiat's wrath in the past. Starting in the seventies some genius felt that just because we had more European brands of cars here than in the U.S.A. that we would also "love" Fiats. They tried to "flood" our market as much as possible and in areas with decent sized Italian communities they sold a fair number of cars. Then the first couple of winters hit! There were so many that would not start in the cold that the Auto Clubs just hated them. By the third winter you could see rust holes in the lower sections of the bodies! There was an ongoing joke about how if you parked one in a quiet garage you could hear them rust. They were dying so often that parts were hard to get for repairs. What did they bring in? It is a relatively long list; 850 Sedan and spider, 128 sedan, 124 sedan and spider and the 125 sedan. At this point I lost interest in them and I do not remember when they pulled out. I do have one last memory of their "Canadian experience". Not long after they left Canada I was doing my usual annual visit to the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, and without really caring noticed that there was a Lada sedan on display. Well, I had to have a look! Yep, same old same old. Just as I walked by the thing I heard one fellow say "Just what the world needs, a brand new 25 year old Fiat". And I am willing to bet that all the marketing geniuses at FCA don't have a clue as to why the 500 still isn't selling well here. I also expect these are the same marketing geniuses that have determined that due to cheap cost of fuel here there is no future for cars like the Dart and 200. This is why Ford has invested in a second location for building the Fusion (bringing sales up to well over 300,000) and in spite of some issues with the Focus' transmission it is still selling almost 250,000 per year. Wow, I have ranted for long enough! Later, Morry
  5. And just to stir the pot a bit more... I was using a Unix multi user multitasking O/S on a Motorola 6809 processor starting around 1985. The real hoot of it was that they called it OS-9 way back then. I believe the company that wrote this is still in business. Google Microware <G>.
  6. It is very easy to be down on Ford for the perceived deficiencies BUT... I'll bet my lunch for the next week that there are very good reasons for the changes. Your American government is ramming some VERY strict fuel economy standards down our throats (cause Canada always follows along) and I think moving to these engine choices is the only current way to meet them. Don't rag at Ford, talk to your congressman. It would not surprise me if as each mid-sized popular priced sedan goes through its next re-design every one drops the V6. Ford was just one of the first. For Louis M. I'll also bet you said that once about downsizing from V8s to V6s. Now look at the number of V6 trucks Ford is selling. With the major addiction to petroleum that everyone in North America has, something HAS to give somewhere! I have an 09 Fusion V6 now and it still has a lot of good years in it. I've looked at its competition fom time to time and i have never seen anything out there that would be good enough to make me want to change brands. I'll probably be ready in about 2014 and a Titanium would look good in my driveway.
  7. I have to ask... Have you ever bothered to aim them, or at least have them aimed? If they aren't pointed correctly the best bulbs in the world are useless. My Fusion has headlights that are nothing short of excellent. The only change I have made is to put Philips Extravision in the low beam units, and then aim them CAREFULLY and correctly. The low beams are so good that I almost never use the highs even on the Interstates.. And this is from an old guy in his sixties where the night vision is supposedly going. The cheapest mod you can make to improve your lights is getting them aimed. Trust me.
  8. Do you old farts even know what an SSD is? This old fart (62) works with them all the time (Solid State Drive). I've been in the field for almost 20 years and still ticking. The biggest issue I see with this kind of stuff is that the logins (thanks to Microsoft) have gotten so long that people will do anything (including staying logged in) to avoid the long wait at the start of a session. SCCM has done its share to add to the wait!
  9. [i had a look at both before I decided on the Fusion. My reasons for going with the Fusion were; It looks like the Fusion will have the better tradein value According to the reliability surveys the Fusion is better More interior space (especially in the back seat) Sync. I am very impressed with the way it handles both my audio requirements and cellphone connectivity. I hope this helps.
  10. Actually there is another good article along these lines on the True Delta website. Check out the second article in the Blog titled; Auto industry insanity defined It is at the following link; http://www.truedelta.com/blog/?session_code= and his report to GM is included. Makes for some very interesting reading! You also have to remember that his report was done 10 years ago... doesn't sound like too much has changed.
  11. [Actually, I just read over at Market Watch that according to Edmunds that to help with their sales figures Toyota has flooded the commercial market with whatever they could to keep the stats looking as good as possible. Check out this link... http://www.marketwatch.com/story/used-car-values-up-except-toyota-edmundscom-2010-03-12 Fun wow!
  12. When I bought my 09 SEL new I arranged for a hitch to be installed by the dealership. They didn't actually do the installation, it was farmed out to a local hitch installer. There were no threats of a voided warranty at all. I use the hitch receiver only for carrying my road bikes around and this system has been great (took 2 bikes to Florida over Christmas. The riding was great!) There are 2 or 3 good brands of receivers out there. Find a good hitch installer and go with what they recommend. I have a Hidden Hitch. I hope this helps.
  13. Absolutely not! CBC Television's Marketplace did an expose on them about 8 months ago and they were almost totally inaccurate, When confronted they did nothing but make excuses, If you want to, spend your money on a good mechanic's appriasal instead.
  14. Hey, Y2K was GREAT!!! I work in the industry. It helped keep me employed, entertained me greatly for a year or so, and after it was over lead to some really great inside stories and funny situations. If the system were to want to do this again, I'd play their silly game. Just keep the paychecks rolling in<G>.
  15. I was on automobilemag.com and stumbled on something that in past times never would have seen the light of day. I just had to share it here. The article was about the success of the Chevrolet Malibu and they were quoting a bigwig from GM. (Now depending on the spin you put on this information, this post could have gone in about three different places. I figured it would be seen by the most users here.) I repeat the post below... "From the product development side we need to take a good look at...the Ford Fusion," said Jim Federico, who heads up midsize vehicle development at General Motors. The link for this can be found at; http://blogs.automobilemag.com/6627636/aut...sion/index.html It seems to me that this is indicative of the kind of trouble that GM is in. They are no longer "leaders". Like their products or not, there was a time when they did not "take a good look at anyone". GMC really does seem to have lost its way.
