  1. Honestly the Press releases and Video are not done in such a way as to determine whether this is a reskin or facelift - this is likely intentional. Even the Glasshouse thing is not known to be certain. FOA just had to do something as our press here is very coloured. If Holden released a pencil sharpener the press would say it is the greatest thing to ever happen to the transport industry !
  2. I really do not see a Taurus loss in the report. Many summaries do, but not the actual report.
  3. OK, So they are not RWD, but the engine is longitudinal - so it is closer to being a RWD than it is FWD.
  4. Hmmm - Aussie Falcon based with longitudinal RWD anyone ?
  5. I don't see this comment as being necessarily 'gospel'. Already the Aust Falc is good for another 5ish (citation needed) years on the current platform, and I am confident Ford are only just starting to consider their options beyond that. And this 'Off Handed' comment makes no comment on whether it is a FWD based AWD or not. The Australian Press have a habit of hounding until they get something they can sell in their paper, rather than reporting actualities - as a result often the quoted source is not the person in the know - rather whoever was stupid enough to open their mouth. This having been said, if Ford do not have a RWD platform about Falc Size, then we will get a Taurus, and the local made hero will die. Also - If Ford do not start giving a positive outlook for the Falc then its sales will drop to the point that it is not sustainable. Falcon is by far the biggest selling Ford product in Australia, I doubt they will intentionally give it up - but stupidity may prevail.
  6. I dont know my North American cars too well, but .... If we look at this based on platform the Panther is outselling a good few other platforms both inside and outside Ford.
  7. There is supposed to be something with some degree of worldwide significance to Ford at the Australian Motor show in Sydney this October. Rumours are that it is T6 based, I am sure there are a dozen other things I would rather see ! But I think I will pop in this year anyway.
  8. My understanding is a bit like this: It is a number that must be made up to allow the books to balance I own $X in real, tangible Assets. I owe $Y in real, tangible liabilities. Nobody is at my door (this year) saying I am bankrupt, so I must have a goodwill of Y-X
  9. The GM is almost my favorite ever US car. I did 2 weeks driving around Raleigh, followed by a drive to Atlanta, and then two weeks around Atlanta in one, and loved it. In my heart it competes with the Five Hundred (before it was renamed Taurus) That I drive around Hawaii Big Island for three days. These two cars captured all that is needed in a Car, If it was current and available in Australia, I would have a GM, and a 500 for the wife.
  10. It is actually more like: I buy a 61% share in a company, loan it $100, and in addition to that create a 'line of credit' for an additional $200 Then the company draws $100 from the line of credit to pay back the loan.
  11. Well Yes and no - reading another thread. If the car was in USA for evaluation it would need to be destroyed after 12 months anyway - the best way to take advantage of destroying a car is to crash test it. So the question now is why was it taken there ? was it for the sole purpose of crashing it, or is that just a legal necessity ?
  12. Personally I still do not see any that rules out what I see as the most obvious option A US engineered RWD based on the Falcon Platform. Likely all that is needed is a slight stretch in length, say 4 inches (would give a car very similar to one previously known in Australia as a Fairlane). In fact 'based on the Falcon Platform' would also allow for a 'reskin' to suit US police tastes. If it was 5.0 V8 only then their would be no need to worry about the ecoboost V6 fitting in - until it is also needed in Australia - but if it was that would add to the 'US Engineering' - and be beneficial in Australia when Euro V hits us (assuming the I6 will need to go).
  13. That "Global Warming" is not really happening the biggest evidence is the renaming of the concept to now be "Climate Change". Is man impacting the world - Yes. We pollute, we kill species ... yes we do stuff, but so do all creatures. Are we having an irreversible impact on the world - maybe, but so do many things (tell me again - why don't we have dinosaurs any more ?). Are we causing effects in an avoidable manner that will be to man's long term detriment ? Without this becoming a religious discussion, I cannot say for sure, and neither, apparently, can scientists.
  14. no more ridiculous than the current paradigm of managing to share price and this month's bottom line. Let those that want daily fluctuations go to mining and oil where the business does fluctuate day to day, rather than forcing day to day fluctuations artificialy into a stable growth industry. Let business be business.
  15. I have a long held opinion that all company execs should be paid a reasonable living. Say an inflation adjusted equivalent of say $600,000 in 2010 (or whatever 'reasonable' figure you decide) BUT Anything beyond this, to probably a minimum of 1/3 of their salary should be made up of regular class shares that they can never sell. And all bonuses should also be paid in regular shares that they can never sell (but their estate can sell them post mortem). This will get execs focused on the long term well being of the company, not the share price !
