  1. I have owned nothing but Fords/Ford products since 1985. I have never experienced a rattle in any of these cars. I presently own a 2015 Fusion with no rattles (exceptionally tight body) and a 1997 F150 with no rattles. Rattles never entered my mind until I read this thread; however, I owned a 2005 Sable that occasionally had a popping noise in the plastic trim pieces on the instrument panel around the radio. I contributed that to simple expansion/contraction due to temperature. Was never a problem or distraction.
  2. A jump starter was used to get the car running. Got the car back from the service dept. yesterday aft. After extensive diagnostics, the problem could not be pinpointed. The car's computer was updated, however. The technician was perplexed that he could not identify the gremlin that caused the battery to completely drain. He told me the car has a fail safe system that is supposed to prevent a complete battery drain. Apparently it didn't work. I am now concerned this will happen again, and I will get stranded. Have decided to join AAA for piece of mind. As an aside, for those of you who have a Fusion, pls. read page 164 of your owner's manual to identify how to release your transmission from park if you ever have a similar circumstance. A big thanks to Economic Sinkhole for that little gem of info. Happy motoring everyone.
  3. Short update. Roadside Assistance got my car started. I drove it to the dealer. Technician worked several hours while I waited. He cannot find the problem. Repair shop keeping the car overnight to spend more time with it. More later.
  4. Thank you sir. That sounds like good advice. I never would have thought of it. Congratulations on your new Fusion. You will absolutely love the car.
  5. Yes, I bought the car new 20 months ago. The dealer I bought it from is 17 miles away. Should I just call the dealer and let them handle it or should I try to get a jump start and drive the car to the dealer. I've never faced this situation before.
  6. Thank you both gentlemen. I looked for an access panel but this is far above my skill level. Also, I noticed a constant clicking sound (no key in the ignition). It sounds like an old fashioned clock ticking. I will try to get a jump start tomorrow morning and then take the car back to the dealer. After repair, I'll do a follow up to let you gentlemen know what was wrong.
  7. I went to my garage to start my car. The battery is so dead there is not even the clicking noise. I cannot get the car out of park in order to push it out of the garage into the driveway to get a jump start. Any advice or is there some trick to getting the car out of park?
  8. When will the Fusion be completely redesigned?
  9. Bought my 1st new car in 10 years. Traded in the '05 Sable w/145,333 mi. and bought a '15 Fusion SE w/ 1.5 Eco (Tectonic Silver) and the 201 pkg. What a nice car!
  10. Excellent. I have neve seen a 55 Ford with AC. Thanks so much. Nshvlcat
  11. Thank you Bill. Your knowledge of early auto AC is impressive. Nshvlcat
  12. Thank you Oldcarnut for your input. My Dad also bought a new 1953 Ford (non-AC). I must say that I am surprised that a fifty-three had AC. Do you remember anything about the vents? Was it a tube with vents in the headliner or vents in or under the dashboard?
  13. Thank you very much for the pic wrptbird. This is exactly what I remember seeing back in 1956. Only remember seeing the one. My Dad was a Ford car salesman in the 1950s. I never saw an air conditioned 1957 or '58. nshvlcat
  14. Thank you Birdman. Has anyone actually seen pictures of an air conditioned 1955 Ford or Merc. Collectable Automobile does have a pic of a 1955 Linclon with AC in the current issue. As I previously stated, I believe that I once saw a 1956 Ford Fairlane that had AC. Thanks to everyone for your input. My Dad's first AC car was the 1966 T'bird.
  15. I hope someone can answer this question. In what year did Ford begin to air condition their cars? I know that Lincolns were air conditioned in 1955 using vents in the headliner (same as Cadillac). I vaguly remember as a child seeing a 1956 Ford Fairlane with AC. I seem to recall two large round registers in the top of the instrument panel on either side of the radio speaker. Were any Fords or Mercurys air conditioned prior to 1956? I know by 1959 AC was slung under the dash and this method was used until 1964. In 1965, the AC was integrated into the dash.
